Judge rules Tom Benson needs assistance

Mr. Scot

I feel bad for Mr. Benson, seems like a good guy, most people on the saints forums paint that his grand daughter is the crazy one

old school saint fans can't stand Benson.  He is the same guy that wanted to move the team to San Antonio before, during and after Katrina.

living on a diet of soda, candy and ice cream did not suddenly make him a "sweet old man".

You dont make millions being a sweet old man. Besides maybe he was helping the Saints. We all know NO is a shithole.

Does anyone else not find it extremely fuging alarming that courts can get involved in what happens with your personal assets?  Mr. Benson decided to leave the Saints and Pelicans in the hands of his wife instead of his daughter's upon his passing.  Tough luck for the daughter, right?  Nope!  Daughter sues and now the courts are involved and who knows what will happen now with these court appointed "receivers".

I don't give a rat's ass about the Saints, but just speaking as a citizen of this country, that is some seriously fuged up poo.

Guy is a total douche.

Back as far as 2001, Benson had a 10-year deal with the state of Louisiana which paid him a total of $180M to keep the team in New Orleans. Imagine that, the state paying an NFL owner to stay by paying him taxpayer dollars.

In 2009, Benson renegotiates a deal that pays him $23M in subsidies, he buys a business office hi-rise building from that state and then turns around and rents the office space to the state!

Louisiana state agencies are paying above-market rates to rent office space from New Orleans Saints owner Tom Benson, and the state is paying $625,000 for space it isn't using, according to an audit released Monday.

Legislative Auditor Daryl Purpera's office reviewed the lease, which was negotiated by Gov. Bobby Jindal's administration in 2009 as part of a package of incentives that replaced a previous state deal with the NFL team.

The deal keeps the Saints in New Orleans through 2025 and scrapped direct cash incentive payments the state had been making to Benson, in exchange for improvements to the New Orleans Superdome and the office lease arrangement.

The Jindal administration has said the deal saves the state millions it would have paid under the old deal, while also keeping an economic driver for the state.

Ill have to see if I can find it again but I read that the crux of the suit and the reason the courts are involved is not over some petty family squabble.

But rather that the sports franchises are held either by a corporation or trust and that Benson attempted to remove a billion plus in assets from the corp/trust without compensation.

Im off to find it...

    • He’s been every bit as much of the problem as anyone else. You cant remove him from that fact, he is just as much part of the team and in THE most important position on the field. But this is the first season he’s seen any kind of continuity in his team and coaches. And he’s shown flashes here and there. But we do need more out of him going forward a lot more if we are going to be successful
    • Bryce isn’t great and super mid. But I think can be a game manager. What do we think is out there? Daniel Jones isn’t going anywher. Mac Jones? Zach Wilson? Pickett. I’m just not sure what’s out there that is much better without having to give up a ton of capital. Rather take one more step closer to contention with our early rounders next year with FS and LB help. Make this  place where dang they got a defense and a WR1 and solid RB room. I can win with that and want to be here
    • AR15 is if Justin Fields was fragile and his teammates hated him. No thanks. Ya'll think you hate watching Bryce Young? Wait until your QB can't even complete a 7 yard pass over the middle, which Fields and Richardson can't do. If the draft class was better, I could absolutely see the Titans moving on from Ward already if they got the #1 pick. But so far the college QB's haven't impressed enough. They'll have flashes, but then follow it up with a very meh game. Kyler is already done in Arizona, but he has a ridiculous contract and he's basically Bryce that likes to scramble, so no thanks. If Lawrence can't produce with that team in Jacksonville, what do you think he'll do here? He's tall Bryce who can throw deep but can't make the 4th down throws and crumbles in the red zone. No thanks. I do think Canales wants to move on from Bryce, his body language says so even in wins. He treated Bryce pretty odd this week and Bryce looked checked out in the Packers game. But unless they make another risky trade, its going to be slim pickings. Basically our hopes lie in hitting early in the draft with a Mateer, Nussmeier, Beck type or finding a random backup free agent that has another gear to hit.  I think even with the draft being wishy washy, 4-5 QB's will be taken in the top 7. A lot of teams are just that desperate.
