Sounds like the Bucs will pick Jameis Winston

Lovie on Winston's off field issues:

"You look at the league right now," Smith said. "You look at the history of our league, and there's been some good players that have been accused of things and they're playing right now. Some we talk about. Some we don't even want to bring up. I'm talking about the ones that have been accused. There's guys accused and there's guys who have actually committed things. I think, with Jameis, he's accused. So for those people who are out there, if there's a group, I assume there should be a group of people who have been proven innocent. They should have a say also."

Uh...ok

Smith said he's been impressed with how Winston has handled adversity.

"To me, I think he's told us an awful lot with how he's handled it," Smith said. "It's not like he's getting ready to go into the NFL and scrutiny is coming his way. He's gone through it a couple years now and he's answered the bell. That's what you have to do. You have to have tunnel vision and do your job. Looking from the outside, that's what he's been able to do."

"I think, in the end, it will be a clear decision on who we should take," Smith said. "It will be obvious to see who the best player is to lead our franchise, to lead our team next year and get out of that cellar."

Lovie also said he is comfortable making Winston the face of the franchise.

Well, the Bucs won't be boring that's for sure.

    • I've actually been very complimentary of him.  I have said that I think he will get the bulk of receptions and yards. I have said I think he will be a 1k yard reciever thia year. He has issues tho and I guess no one is allowed to point them out.
    • We don't have to lie, 4.8 was official and there were scouts who had him in the 4.54 to 4.57 range
    • Think the "official time" put out was 4.48, but there were a lot of scouts there who of course all had difference times as it's all handed timed by them.  Think I saw it as low as 4.43 and as high as 4.62 or something, but in the end it's all basically the same speed because 40 yard dash is so pointless. Anyone who complains about his speed is just someone who wants a Chase/Jefferson/Nabers style #1 as opposed to an Evans style #1 who isn't going to beat you because of his speed but his other abilities. In the end, he's fast enough for a player his size and surprisingly quicker and more agile than people give him credit for too. The real problem is that Panthers fans can't get our past big WR failures out of their head, they hear "big WR" and automatically see a plodding KB or Jarrett in their minds and assume that's also T-Mac.
