49ers could cut Bowman

And then there's this...

As one league source who has been paying keen attention to the Kaepernick story tells PFT, the 49ers’ plan to sign Ravens receiver Torrey Smith may not mesh with the stated desire to keep Kaepernick.

Smith, as the source explained it, specializes in deep routes.  One of Kaepernick’s biggest weaknesses arguably is accuracy on the deep ball.  In San Francisco, Smith’s specific talents could be wasted, unless of course the quarterback is someone other than Kaepernick.

Of course, in this chicken-and-egg dynamic, it could be that Kaepernick simply needs a deep threat like Smith to unlock the deep passing game.  The concern for now, however, given Kaepernick’s recent history and Smith’s skill set is that it may not work.

So it makes sense keep an eye on this one.  Either the 49ers are putting together potentially mismatched parts in their passing game, or they could indeed end up with a new quarterback.

Are Kaepernick and Smith a good match?

(still don't buy the trade talk, but it's a valid question)

why would the miners go after a WR that didn't vibe with the face of their franchise and then dump said face of their franchise because of some plain Jane receiver....all in hopes of finding a different QB that sure as heck isn't going to be the face of their franchise?

terrible logic

I would assume they believe that signing Smith helps make Kaepernick's deep accuracy better.

Will it?  Guess we'll see.

If they cut him, Gettlemen needs to be on line one. Flyer or not, Bowman is too talented to ignore.

Yeah I wouldn't be mad if we brought him in.... HIGHLY doubt it because even injured I think he'll be too much for us.

But just imagine a healthy Bowman in there with Davis and Kuechly then you have someone to kick in there once Davis hangs the cleats up.

They've transcended dumpster fire at this point.

Absolutely, because there was literally no reason for them to stop what they had going. To my knowledge they weren't in cap hell, they had draft picks, they had good young talent in the pipeline, and now, just because management can't get along with the best coach they've had since Walsh, they've just decided to tear it all down. Ridiculous.

So they have lost what...? 8-9 starters from last year?

Patrick Willis

Frank Gore

Justin Smith

Chris Culliver

Bruce Miller

Michael Crabtree

Mike Iupati

Stevie Johnson

and now possibly Navorrow Bowman? Woah.
