This article should help those of you (us) deal with Carolina's expected apathetic approach to free agency.  Yes, it is bleacher report for all of you who only read peer-reviewed scientific journals, but this is choc full of facts to support the slant of the article.

Hope this is not already common knowledge.  I did not see a specific reference to it in titles.

Read it. Good article and I agree. Look who remains competitive each and every year. The Packers and Pats. They certainly are not big movers and shakers in free agency each year. Championship teams are built through the draft. Free agency should just be used for stop gaps and to fill in a missing piece hear and there.

Yeah that Revis guy isn't a big mover or shaker.

I have to admit, after reading this I've changed my opinion some. It does seem like the best teams are ones that don't make the big splashes. Really opened my eyes actually.

Can you now go back over your posts from the last few days and edit them to "I wish I was a Dolphins fan?"

To be fair that's all I saw when I read most of your posts.

I think the thing that a lot of people miss, is that the teams that make the huge "splash" plays in FA, usually have a lot more problems, than what they signed to compensate.  In the Suh example, should he go to Miami, he's going to get upwards of $60 million guaranteed, but look at the rest of their team.  They have a ton of holes to fill, and are allocating an enormous amount to just 1 of them.

Yes, Revis was a big splash signing, but the way that contract was drawn up, the Pats didn't have to commit to him long-term with huge guarantees.  They signed him as a stop gap.  They won a Super Bowl.

When I say that I don't like big splash FA signings, I'm talking about the typical long-term contracts with huge guaranteed money.

It's honestly kind of amusing how many people believe that the leagues best teams aren't active participants in free agency each year

It's a hilariously widespread myth on this board

No way, infact I always thought the Suh deal was just absurd. I was more along the lines of the Torrey Smith kind of splash, not one of Suh proportions. That's just full retard what they will pay him

    • Got to give some credit to the coaching staff on these. You can grab top talents but without good coaching, they just fizzle out. We've seen that a lot around here.
    • Oh, no TV for tonight's game unless you have the NHL Network, I believe. I could be wrong, hopefully?
    • Early returns are great and exciting but also worth noting that Gettleman had a few drafts that looked incredible early on and wound up mostly sucking (2014 mainly). Also PFF; grain of salt, etc.    I'm completely sold on Tet being a stud, knocked a high pick out of the park like we needed to and always should. Nearly sold on Scourton. Not sold on Princely but he had flashes. Not sold on Etienne as more than a 3rd stringer and special teamer, but that's not terrible for his draft position. Big fan of Ransom and think he'll be a starter.  Cam Jackson : IDK, I see limited upside but we didn't see much of him Evans was a nice find for draft position and he had a great rookie year for a late round rookie TE with plenty of veteran competition. Not sure about his upside though, seems like best case is a long term #2/3 TE, which isn't bad. Jimmy Horn, personally I didn't see a damn thing from him that impressed me all year. And he got a lot of opportunities. Pulling for the kid, but not convinced he's an NFLer.   UDFA: Fitzgerald was an amazing find
