Panthers interested in Landon Collins

Former 1st rounder Haha Clinton-Dix played well for the Packers last year as a Rookie.

Former 1st rounder Kareem Jackson has been solid for the Texans and he will likely play out the rest of his career there.

Other than those two the rest of Bama Dbs have been mediocre to non existent at the pro level. That does not mean Collins will be the same way but I understand the trepidation.

Valid points.

It's hard to be much better of a prospect at safety than #7 overall.

Make no mistake, Barron was a BIG TIME prospect coming out of Alabama. Certainly heard a lot more clamor about him leading up to the 2012 draft than you're hearing about Collins right now. If anything, the main thing you can kind of infer about Collins is that he's the #1 safety by default with this being considered a weak overall safety class.

So if he drops to 25, are you a yea or a nay?

I'm on the fence. Always depends on who else is available. Also depends on how Gettleman and Rivera envision him being used and what they think about Tre Boston. Do they think he's a legit center fielder type FS? IMO, that's what you'd need beside Collins. If you have that type of safety to handle the deep coverage and can allow Collins to roam, that gets interesting.

For awhile now, I've been on that Jaelen Strong wagon. If he's there, I want him.

Understood. I kind of am too.

I've gotten some interesting answers out of this thread, though. Kudos to the respondents.

Honestly instead of that pick at 25 I would get the hungrier and more experienced version in the form of dashon goldson. Of course he didn't play well in Tampa neither did revis. But he has experience with a good front seven where he excelled and was named a pro bowler. Yea he is more of a fs but Idk if it was only me but tre boston really fits the ss position he literally almost killed Luke a couple off times coming down hill fearlessly.

I think we're just doing our due diligence with multiple possible prospects.  I think the key with having Collins come in is not so much as he will be the pick, but the consensus is he's the #1 safety, we can base just where all the other safeties will fall in the draft based on his particular skillset.  I don't think he will be our pick in the first.  I don't think they are gonna trade up to get either him or Trae Waynes in the first round, I think the second round is where it gets interesting.  If Fisher is floating around there in the middle of the second and they really do view him as the LT of the future they could move some picks to move up and get him.  I'm never right with my draft predictions, but I'm gonna say we'll draft Gurley at #25, Trade up in the second and grab fisher, and use a 3rd rounder for a receiver/DE/corner.  I know the Gurley pick seems crazy, but the RB position is getting devalued and just 3 years ago he would be a top 10 pick, and as long as Shula is our OC, run game is ESSENTIAL to us being viable offensively and I predict that Gettleman wants to move on from Stewart's contract.  Fisher will shore up our O-line at the tackle and between him, Oher, and Remmers we might field a (dare I say it) decent O-line which will make everyone look better.  In the 3rd it'll depend on what position of need has the highest grade for G-man for what we pick.

Other than the runningbacks, this seems like one of the most debated prospects on this board.

So a question to the pro and anti Collins posters: Why should I support, or not support, taking him?

very good box safety. effective tackler in the open field, decent athleticism, and has ball hawking skills. can play zone, and man coverage. has shown the ability to cover in the slot at times, on some WRs, and TEs. can play single high safety, over top, and on a hash in a 2 high look. takes the correct pursuit angles when finding work, whether making a tackle or tracking the football. attacks the ball in air at its highest point, and has very good hands for a safety.

by far the best safety in this class, some scouts believe he is better then HaHa Clinton- Dix, who went around pick 21 last year to Green Bay. i think he should come off the board around the late teens to mid twenties. i find it hard to believe if he is on the board at 25, that the panthers will pass on him.

    • Former league executive and current NFL.com analyst Marc Ross recently named his top second-year breakout candidates for the upcoming campaign. Ross includes Legette, who may be helped out by his team's latest first-round selection. He writes: Legette had a slow start to his NFL career, catching 49 passes for 497 yards and four touchdowns last season. Some of the struggles can be tied to his own growing pains -- he had eight drops on 81 targets, according to Pro Football Focus -- but he had also had to navigate the quarterback shuffle between Bryce Young and Andy Dalton early in Dave Canales' first season leading the Panthers. Canales recently said he believes Carolina has a DK Metcalf-like talent in Legette, who had foot surgery this offseason but was cleared to resume work in early April, and that having a full offseason alongside Young, who took a significant step forward in 2024, could lead to a breakout result in 2025. I anticipate it will also help that Carolina invested another first-round pick in a wide receiver, Arizona's Tetairoa McMillan, to complement Legette in the pass game. McMillan's presence, however, could take some pressure off Legette—who may be able to roam around in a more natural playmaking role. With the 6-foot-4 All-American likely to take on the bulk of the volume from Young, Legette should have some cleaner shots to break out downfield and in the box score.     https://pantherswire.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/panthers/2025/05/06/panthers-wr-xaiver-legette-top-breakout-candidates-2025/83475176007/?taid=681a4610ede05d000149b376&utm_campaign=trueanthem&utm_medium=trueanthem&utm_source=twitter
