Phillip Dorsett to meet with Panthers

Dorsett is no where as good as Cooks or even TY Hilton coming out of college.

I realize some of you don't watch college ball but Dorsett was never a premier wr in his own conference. He has the skill set of a elite vertical threat but does not offer much else as a wr. Now a smaller wr like Crowder from Duke was a much better wr but he does not have Dorsett 4.3 speed.

I would take the k state wr Lockett over Dorsett as well. He was a tremendous wr in college and has skills transferable to the league as well.

I was moreso talking about is stock rising, but I'd see hes about equal too or greater than Hiltion coming out.

I have to agree, especially with the first sentence.  I think he offers a little more than just speed though.  Definitely not a "fringe" 1st rounder IMO.  I'd personally put him in the late 2nd - mid 3rd range, leaning more to the mid 3rd.

How so? TY Hilton actually produced in college as a wr and on special teams and his game was more advanced than Dorsett. Dorsett primarily ran go routes at Miami and his route tree was not extensive.

Not the same caliber of players imo. Now Tyler Lockett is different.

Do Not Want in the first 3 rounds.  He does have Speed.  But thats all he's got.  The Lockett kid is more "explosive" and will go lower.  If he's sitting around the 4th grab him.  He is in no way a #2, the guy would be a good #3 slot WR in the league.  We just signed one of those, who also happens to be a track star with poor hands in Ginn.

Hurricane fan here. He's fast but... that's about it.

That's what I saw when I did watch Miami games. I think he will have a long career but people need to temper their expectations if they think he is going to be the next TY HIlton. He has amazing speed but that's pretty much it. He's no Santana Moss, that's for sure.

If he's all we get at WR we are in trouble.  Ginn, Hill, and Dorsett fighting for the #2 and #3 with Ginn having the best hands out of the group.  Thats not something to be overly excited for a QB.

Crabtree is a bust as a first rounder and I don't think I can name another first round WR who was purely a speed guy that ever became a huge impact player for his team.

Brown is our one-dimensional WR and Ginn would fit that same bill if he wsang such a good returner on special teams.

we don't need a burner. we need someone with speed who is physical and can make the tough catch regardless of the route he is assigned. Benji and Olsen are about as physical as you get and we have Cotch as our possession guy with Ginn stretching the field.

there is no rational reason why we should waste a puck on a WR when we desperately need a difference making Safety, OLB and some help on the OL before we go looking at WR and RB when we have plenty.

Do you think the coaching staff really likes how Hill has progressed and are counting on him to make a leap?

Lol. I gave the dumbest post award to thebigcat earlier, but I believe this just topped it.

    • I agree. I’d make the move because I don’t see us sniffing the playoffs and let’s be honest TMac, Legette and Coker better be our top 3 future. If they aren’t and we need Thielen to replace one of them, then we need to draft yet another 1st round WR, SMH. Suffice it to say, Thielen isn’t good enough to get us into the playoffs so let’s get the young guys starting so we know if they aren’t good enough. We still have so many assumptions about whether players are who we need them to be that holding onto Thielen for 3-7 wins isn’t worth passing on a mid round pick (3rd to 5th/swaps). We’ve had some success with later round picks/UDFAs and need depth.
    • If you move Thielen I think you almost have to keep Renfrow. You need some sort of veteran presence in the locker room and Renfrow would be good insurance in the slot. I'm sure we have Coker penciled in to start there but you also have to be keeping Coker in the back of your head as XL insurance on the outside if he doesn't step up. If he flounders again, I wouldn't wait too awfully long to replace him with Coker outside and slide Renfrow into the slot and keep it moving.
    • Playing the same role is different than having the same style.  Cam Newton and Drew Brees both played QB but arent the same type in any way.
