That was the same thing said about Benwikere.

And Deon Sanders for that matter. It depends on how we would plan to use him and how tough he is. Can he learn to be aggressive and improve his tackling or is he is a track star who isn't a complete player which is why we brought him in. His speed and ball hawk skills are impressive but the other parts, not so much. As a backup he would have to be good on special teams and going downfield as a gunner would seem to be a no brainer unless he is soft.

He is pretty good in man coverage but there is a lot of times where there is mix ups with him and the safety in zone.  If you watch him on tape there is a lot of times where he would let a guy go and the safety never picked him up and the guy would get 15 yards past every defensive player for FSU.

Was that his fault or the safety's fault, who knows.  But we play a lot of zone here so it could be a big deal if he is not a quick enough learner to pick up what he is suppose to be doing.

But then again if we got a couple of CB's that could cover in man all over the field would we switch to more of a man scheme than a zone scheme we currently have.  That's hard to say.

He could be good in the right scheme, it just depends on how a team wants to use him as to how good he could be.

Darby worries me from an off the field perspective. He's never gotten in trouble himself that I know of but he is always around it. Was there for the Winston incident and both PJ Williams incidents. Maybe he's just super unlucky, but it's at least something to pay attention to.

I thought he worked his way up in the combine/ pro day to possibly being a 1st round pick. If not 1st round then he will probably be drafted in the early to mid 2nd round. If he's available when we pick then I would have to say he would be BPA.

    • Link to article Seven players mentioned are... ILB Mark Robinson (PIT) - 2022 seventh round pick that was a core special teams player and was productive in the final preseason game vs. CAR (3 TKLs, 1 FF, 1 FR). Undersized at 5'11" 235 lbs.  CB O'Donnell Fortune (NYG) - UDFA rookie out of South Carolina (and a Sumter native). 6'1", 185lbs frame fits the Panthers' preference for long and lanky CBs. Panthers' evaluators got a lot of time with him during the Shrine Bowl, his pro day, and the combine. CB Damarri Mathis (DEN) - 2022 fourth-round pick that played for Evero his rookie season at 5'11" 195lbs both inside and outside. Did well under Evero (16 games, 11 starts, 65 TKLs, 7 PBUs) but slid down the depth chart after he left. Started just seven of 27 games the last two seasons. DB Dean Clark (NYJ) - Fresno State UDFA with good size (6'1" 205lbs) and preseason production (5 TKLs, 1 INT, 2 PBUs) that can also play special teams. The Panthers have claimed a player from the Jets in each of the past two seasons (having also played the Jets both times in preseason though). OLB Brennan Jackson (LAR) - 2024 fifth-rounder that notched three sacks in the preseason. Played special teams and rotated in on defense that could potentially be an upgrade from DJ Johnson. DB Beau Brade (BAL) - 2024 UDFA that appeared in 11 games and played 70% of the special teams snaps. Has the size (6'0" 209lbs) that the team covets at safety. K Ben Sauls (PIT) - 24yrs old and went four-for-four against Carolina in preseason. Made 21 of 24 FGs during his final college season at Pitt.
