ESPN's Analysis of Our Pick, And Why I Feel It Was The Wrong Pick

I agree Diddy. I'm frustrated and share your sentiments. This defense will need to hold opposing offenses to 15 PPG to have another shot at 11-5/12-4/13-3. My biggest worry is a couple broken plays against our defenses or quick turnovers by the offense and a 14 point lead early will be a hole too big to climb out of against even an average defense.

Can't wait to see how this defense handles Luck +TY Hilton + Andre Johnson + Phillip Dorsett + Dante Moncrief + Frank Gore + Coby Fleener/Dwayne Allen when they come to Charlotte on Monday night.

Goes both ways...I cant wait to see how their offense handles Chuck, Star, Short, Ealy, Luke, TD, Bene, Norman, Tillman and now Shaq? Not a team in the league wants any part of that.

You have professed your love for Dorset on this board already man we get it!!!!! Lol. Just gotta trust gman sir. The guy could still go out in rounds 2-4 and come away with say: Fisher, Duke Johnson and Justin Hardy.

We did just fine against the high powered offenses in NO and ATL. We dominated the paper champ bucs when everyone feared ASJ, Jackson and Evans. No why? Because their defense and offensive line are trash. Indy is no different.

I mentioned the coaching staff hurting his development by continuously switching his position... But even once he was taken out from starting at safety, he was then considered a tweener still - as the joker role against Vick... IIRC, he kind of hovered there between positions as the joker for a couple years and only after helping us figure out Vick in that role, did it seem like fans finally started seeing potential in him. He then transitioned into a full time LB, and made everyone forget about the early struggles.

But again, I feel coming in, TD was a superior football player with better instincts, and regardless of measurables, was much more explosive, in-game. He was also open to change.

From what fiz posted in another thread, apparently shaq has said he only will play lb. Yet, coincidentally enough, even on the espn telecast, they basically said his best hope is to transition to safety eventually. I never considered TD a tweener... He was stout like a LB, but he was just so athletic and explosive that we tried to make him into a safety. Shaq is the opposite... He is athletic, but he is not stout and is built more like a safety, but wants to play lb. Regardless, he hasn't shown great instincts at either, like TD did.

Might have already been said, but TD moved to LB his second year and started all 14 games he played in. Only played exclusively at safety/joker in 2006.

That said, I'm not overly fond of the pick but I will give the benefit of the doubt. The guy is fast and has a nose for the ball, two things that can't be taught.

"He's luck hte NFC South is on a decline while we get better."

????????

I gues Andrew Luck is Lucky that everyone in the AFC South sucks then. But ya'll can't ge tthe Colts GMs nuts out a'll mouths.

It's funny if you go check out colts fans' reaction to the pick. I posted a bunch of reactions in another thread and half of them are just slamming grigson for making a stacked position group even more loaded. They're yelling about drafting defense and how they can't get past the patriots thanks to their moron GM. Interesting considering they're considered the gold standard for building a team around a young qb by many on this site.

Can't say it enough, Andrew Luck is a smart smart man

Why don't you do everyone a favor and go find another team to cheer for.

You incessant bitching, moaning, and crying makes me feel like I am at a PMS Convention when you post.

Personally, I do not love the pick but I do not hate the pick.

He is going to be a damn good player and will provide value on defense and ST this season....and either be TD's replacement or give is a Chancellor type of SS.

I am glad we did not reach at OT for a guy like Clemmings....after Peat, Humphries, Scherff, and Flowers were gone, the remaining OT prospects were underwhelming.

I personally would have take Perriman at WR.  But, Gett was clear that he did not view the top of this WR class as all that great.  That basically once you got past the top 3-4, that the #5 was basically the same as #10.  Can get the same type of WR and value later.  I hope he is right and that we grab on in the next two rounds.

Well, I feel bad for Newton but I will hold judgement until 2nd and 3rd round. Thomas is not getting any younger and we do not have quality depth at lb position...not even rotationally..

If Thomas goes down, oh my. Too, Some of the things being said about this kids is what was said about Davis though Davis came in as a Safety from Georgia.

Theres about 20 players id rather dave pick than shaq @ 25. I didn't like hump either, but preferred him over shaq. Sadly the guys picking 1-24 did great, minus 2 picks. Picks 21-24 completely killed the true BPA for me.

I'm a huge fan of what dave and his staff have done over the last 2 years, so I'll wait before I go full retard on this pick and others.

Every season, except for Newton's rookie year, we left the stadium after the last game saying we have GOT to upgrade the offense and allow it be more explosive.

Everyone agrees when we see the Panther leave the field for the final time that season: "Okay, going into this offseason, priority number one is fixing the WR core, or fixing the oline."

Many even say: "I don't care if we use the first 3 picks on WR, WR, OL" and the entire draft on the offense.

Or: "Okay, in free agency, we need to pick up a solid No. 2 WR and a couple of good offensive linemen...lucky for us this is a DEEP free agent WR/OL class..."

By the time February rolls around, we get: "You know, our offense doesn't really need much upgrading...I know our best offensive line just retired, and we have not replaced him...but wouldn't it be cool if we got another DT to sack Matt Ryan, or chase Drew Brees around twice a year"?

By October, we have: "WE HAVE GOT TO BE THE SLOWEST TEAM IN THE NFL ON OFFENSE!! OMG WE HAVE GOT TO UPGRADE OUR OFFENSIVE SKILLS POSITIONS!! CAM NEWTON YOU SUCK!!!"

Rinse. Repeat.

Our offense isn't "explosive" because of lack of appropriate players (though that doesn't help).

Our offense isn't "explosive" for two PRIMARY reasons:

1. That's the way Ron likes it.

2. MIKE SHULA.

Trade for Megatron and A.J. Green, give'em to Cam, and you know what you're gonna get?

A *Mike Shula*-led offense with Scaredy Boat Ron Rivera sitting on top of it keeping it firmly in its "box" lest it break out and scare him.

The End.

I"m in the middle on the pick. Yeah he could be great for our D, but our offense is still weak. Even if we have the #1 D in the league, our offense is still weak.  Our offense needed more impact players than our defense. We took one of those potential impact players away from offense to again build up the defense.

I'm just nervous because Cam's contract is getting close to the end and I don't want to lose him. We have to build up the line and WRs for Cam. We have to build around him.

I knew I shouldn't have gotten my hopes up for Dorsett. Really thought he would be a perfect fit here.

After round 1 of the draft tonight, who has a receiving corps comparable to ours?

Panthers and Browns may have the two worst groups of WRs in league.

Don't worry it will be addressed tonight or tomorrow
