Realistic Expectations For Devin Funchess This Season

Recommended Posts

Does this thread sound familiar? It should. We did it for Kelvin last year and it's kind of fun to look back at.

I don't think he will have the same impact as Kelvin. Mainly because we won't be down by 30 chucking it in the 4th quarter. He needs to come in and earn playing time. Kelvin had to beat out the likes of Brenton Bersin and Tiquan Underwood for the starting role. Devin will need to prove he is reliable in an offense with limited opportunities.

I say 600 yards and 5 Touchdowns would be a good year for this rookie.

What say you, Huddle?

Well considering we were high enough on him to trade up using our 3rd rounder I think the expectations should be raised a bit. As our #2 I expect him to put up 750+ yards and 6-8+ TDs.

Since he dominated the Big 10 last season as such a mismatch against college Dbs with his 4 tds!! id say going against better players he may go insane for 3 tds <400 yrds.

I actually have come to understand his value as a blocker in the run game and maybe Cotchery is still the number 2.

That's fair....

I would think that would be a good rookie year for a 2nd round pick.

I may be being a little hard on him since I was strongly against taking him at 57 before the draft so you can understand how I feel trading our 3rd for him, but I'm optimistic. If he can put that up I'd be ecstatic. May be a little unreasonable for a 2nd round rookie WR (last year's insanely good WR class has expectations for rookie wideouts higher) but if he goes under 600ish and 5 TDs, I'd be extremely disappointed.

After watching the Presser with Gettleman and Rivera I am more at ease with the pick.  We got fair value for the pick.

I think he'll be a good compliment to KB.  Could be a nice Duo for years to come.

Big difference for Funchess from Kelvin is he won't be relied on to be the primary target.  Let's face it, Cam force fed the ball to Benjamin a lot of the time because he didn't have a lot else to work with.  Also, Benjamin ended up with inflated stats partly because of some blowouts the Panthers were involved in.

My predictions for Fuhchess are a reasonable 40 catches for 500 yards, 5 TDs, with some spectacular catches.  But, I had similar predictions for Benjamin so I hope I'm off.

my expectations are raised because at the press conference Ron and Dave talked about how smart he was and that he knew all the stuff they were throwing at him. I think if he is a hard worker and takes it seriously he can have a great season, mainly because he's walking into lining up next to kelvin and greg. He can capitalize on being played by the second DB in single coverage. Just learn routes and focus on catching the ball. Plus, he'll get a full offseason gelling with Cam.

The presser didn't really do much for me but I went back and watched some Michigan games after we picked him and I liked what I saw a bit more than before. I really hope he can be a long term WR2 for us. Not super confident, but I trust Gettleman so I'm remaining optimistic.

    • They are 1 and 9 against the  Bucs in the past 10 games. the Panthers go as young goes.  QB1 ‘s are suppose to dictate and overcome  and elevate Everything the QB does affects every part of the team and Bryce is uneven. Canales and Bryce have  an uneven relationship too  as for Evero, the only thing that might save him is the injury to Baker’s left shoulder and oline injuries. I don’t even know how he is out there   I really feel their season ended last Sunday Canales’ division record isn’t great   Getting owned by the Saints and Bucs isn’t a good look
    • Frankly surprised by the amount of people that want to hang Evero. This was a defense that was almost universally considered the bottom of the barrel before this season started. We’ve managed to stat our way to the middle of the pack whatever that means. Those critical of the zone schemes, what do you want? When even JC is getting burnt one on one by Olave you have little choice. There definitely have been moments where the zone blitz stuff has bit us. That said, are the third string linebackers (and nick Scott) covering poo anyway? This unit had only conceded 10 points going into the fourth quarter despite a litany of bullshit penalties on both sides. Them over performing is the biggest reason we are still in playoff contention.
