La'el Collins has begun visits

top dawg

Recommended Posts

I seen a panther fan saying lael collins narrowed it down to 3 teams and we were one of the teams but I couldent find anything on it. Prob talking out his ass . Anyone else here anything like that?

Supposedly his agent called teams and let them know they were out of the running for him (based on fit alone)

Haven't heard who those teams were though

Well we are definitely interested.

Police in Baton Rouge have said Collins is “still not a suspect,” but a Panthers source told me the team is in wait-and-see mode until he is completely cleared, if and when that happens.

So people can stop asking that question.

How are people still thinking he would get offered more somewhere else? There's a max and every team will offer him thay

There is a max, but there are quite a few different ways his contract can be structured. Teams get a total of $86k in signing bonus to split amongst all their UDFAs. We didn't sign too many so it is possible we still have more of that pool remaining than most teams. Then there is the ability to guarantee his salary which has no limit as far as the percentage of the salary. I imagine most teams would be willing to guarantee the full salary for all 3 years to Collins since it's a total of $1.3M and that will probably be required by his agent to sign him.

Assuming we are willing to guarantee his whole deal which we should and still have a decent amount of UDFA signing bonus money left, we should be able to offer him as good or better a deal as any team can. When you factor in our OL situation and the ability to showcase his talent early on a top team so he can get that big 2nd contract, we should certainly be front runners for his services. The issue will be whether we are willing to commit to that before he is fully cleared(probably not) and how hard we will recruit him before being fully cleared. Those will be mitigating factors. I think we have a good chance but I'm pessimistic.

Four Dolphin players meet with La'el: LB Kelvin Sheppard, WR Jarvis Landry and DT Anthony "Freak" Johnson, who were teammates of Collins at LSU, flew to Louisiana to meet La'el. Joining them on the flight was the Dolphins 2-time Pro Bowl (2013, 2014) center Mike Pouncey (of Florida)

Could you imagine the uproar if he did choose us but JR refused to sign him. "We are flattered Collins would choose the Panthers, but according to my pie chart.. We good.. But thanks for trying."

This makes no sense. You realize that right?

Life goes on fellas. Plus, you aren't necessarily going to grieve publicly. Wearing a mask in times of grieving is fully understandable.  The kid may not even had time to grieve honestly, as I am sure the past week has been a whirlwind. You just don't know what's going on in his mind as far as that's concerned. It has been approximately six months which can be a lifetime for young people and their relationships.

I mean, for all we know, the girl got pregnant by someone else and he felt some type of way about it, and simply moved on mentally and emotionally.  Just because we don't see any emotion doesn't mean that he hasn't had any, but, like I said, people have to continue living.

Is anyone else wondering if Collins should be grieving that his ex was just murdered? I dunnnnooooooooo

Weirdest thing about this to me

When I lost my mom it was devastating. She was on her deathbed for several weeks, the doctors told us there was nothing they could do. We had a lot of family there, and every day for weeks we were all there at her death bed every waking hour. Everybody cried or fought back tears every day. It was incredibly sad seeing her waste away like that when there was nothing you can do, just writing this is making me sad.

But we took a few breaks. One time it was all of us taking a break together for an hour or two: we all went to this close-by restaurant where you ate outdoors with an area for the kids to play, like a family picnic/BBQ in the park type feel. And we all looked so happy and normal, you'd have never known what was going on with us

The other breaks would be just a few people at a time. A couple family members and I went to grab lunch at place in a close-by park by a lake. We looked happy and normal during that hour or two break at that park.

Another time my sister and I went and explored this part of the hospital that had some cool stuff to do to take your mind off things and it was fun and she was happy and I took all these pictures of her. And had you seen those pics, you'd be:

"shouldn't she be grieving with her mom on her death bed? Weirdest thing"

And to tell you the truth, when we all took that one big break together, at the close-by restaurant with the outdoor set-up, I was thinking how weird is was that we could all look so happy and normal in the midst of such agonizing pain and grief

So even if La'el's mom was currently on her death bed, I wouldn't judge him based on a few pics

    • this     I never cease to be amazed at the number of people who will run up their blood pressure to get to the grocery store 30 seconds faster or are racing to get to work like it won’t be there at 8:02.   The only thing I’ve ever done that I think added more years to my life besides quitting smoking, was to learn to go with the flow behind the wheel.
    • The term you're looking for is "malinger(ed)", and he didn't.  I'm not sure why Panthers fans act like jaded ex girlfriends.  The dude is clearly injury prone as his time in San Fransico also proves. It's not like he got to San Fran and stopped having problems.
    • My long and rambling post:   The guy is all heart, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he came back even better next year. He’s exactly the guy you lock up. The money won’t ever change the way he plays.  It was a big fumble, but what 1,000 yard back fumbles once in an entire season?  Pride. This team is FINALLY seeing guys who obviously take the game very seriously. Hunt, Chuba, Thielen, Brown, Horn (CB), Coker, Bryce (IMHO). Bye bye, Spider-Man. I don’t see these dudes being OK with teammates half-assing practice or in games. I can see Brown and Horn coming over to talk to somebody.  Good team? Ummm, maybe, but will still likely lose more close games than they win unless this last draft turns in to LOB part 2. That’s a stretch.  Pretty good/decent team. Yes. They finished the season as a pretty good team. I know I sound like a broken record harping back to it, but going in to ATL and putting a 40 burger on them en route to an OT win. A bad Panthers team would have had their brakes beaten off. We’ve seen it.  Rose colored glasses on and bonging a 40 of hopium: There are watershed moments that occur that change the course of franchises, both good and bad. If Fox doesn’t pull Rodney at halftime, the epic journey that was 2003 never happens. On the negative side, Cam taking that one hit from Watt was the end of any and all Panthers relevancy and we’ve been the biggest losers in all of pro sports as a result. Watershed moments. LOB draft. Vinny goes down and the goat is born.  Will the ATL game be the spark that this franchise has desperately needed? Could it be that they hit the mega million jackpot with Princley and Scourton as eat QBs for breakfast? Sure would be nice having 2 all-pro edge guys on the cheap for the next 4 years.  A lot of unknowns, but at least it actually feels  fun again.
