Oher Struggling Early in Camp

Sure, it's still early, but it's not like we're observing a rookie being bounced around like a pinball here (and yes, that is a pun). Oher, once the raven that soared to the mountaintop, should be beyond being pushed around by little cocks, barely out of the coop, trying to make a name for themselves

Last year many of us were blinded by off-season and pre-season platitudes of being saved by the Bell, but this season I, for one, don't plan to be blindsided. We need to keep an Eagle-eye on this situation early and often.

The party line is only as strong as its weakest link, so the FO needs to get its story together, Oher else.

Yep. This tells me for now, the FO really struggles in evaluating o line talent. Which explains the lack of 1st rd o linemen drafted so far. It's a blind spot.

I think that maybe they aren't willing to invest heavily in the o-line. Since Gross in '03, we have only drafted 3 o-linemen in the first two rounds (Kalil, Otah, and Silatolu). It seems like it just hasn't been a high priority for the last decade+

Probably a combination of both. But some teams do better than others in scouting a particular position. Foe whatever reason.

IT has nothing to do with being willing to spend or their ability to scout. There simply weren't a lot of options if FA or the draft. Also, this was one practice and, hopefully , our DE's are pretty damn good. They have beaten other LT's in real games before. Don't panic.

I would agree with you if we were just talking about 2015 or 2014. But I'm not willing to panic just yet.

I heard a big reason teams aren't signing veteran free agents at this time is because their contracts would pretty much be guaranteed for the year.  However if they sign free agents around week 1 of the season, that will gives teams leeway to cut them if they don't work out.

That aside, I wish we could sign somebody right now, unless our guy Daryl Williams have potential to be our LT at least through camp.

If they were good ones,  they wouldn't  be.

I'm remember reading this same comment (or some close variation) last year before we picked up Remmers.

There are always serviceable players out there. Identifying them is no easy task, but you never give up the search.

who would you like DG to have drafted/signed? Seems like Hurst is the only one who got away. we could have grabbed him with a 7th. otherwise, there hasn't been anyone we could have gotten who we passed on.

with Oher, I don't think anyone expects him to be great, or pro bowl calibre. the question is, can he be good enough.

    • Any idea what happened to him at LSU? im reading that he was considered a 1st round pick in 2023, had an off 2024 season with only 4 sacks but was also on a horrible FSU team then went to LSU where he was supposed to be on an aggressive defense that should have given him a lot of sacks but he only ended up with one….   was he injured? Did the top SEC competition expose him? What happened? Cause this guy was considered a top prospect .
    • Sometimes its fun to read the threads/posts.  The panthers could literally hire a groundskeeper and we'd have a thread "improving the field for no other reason to prop up Bryce Young".  Apparently no move is ever done to actually make the team better.  All a conspiracy to just focus on Bryce Young. Or suddenly daydreaming and reminiscing about Sam Darnold when he was hated more than Bryce Young.  Its really fun to do a message board search about Darnold during that time period.   Or thinking there is just a tree that grows QB, and you can just easily go up and pluck one.
    • Yeah okay. We as an organization have been more patient with him than many. And there has been a small parade of guys drafted since he was, also to bad teams, that have passed him. Some have lapped him. As a fan I am out of patience but he gets this year it is out of my hands always has been. I just hope the bar is higher than it has been for him.    FWIW, XL dropped two passes last year. He did do some other bad stuff, just saying.
