Why will this team win more than 8 games?

the rest of the division doesn't have its poo together seemingly which doesn't hurt.  the saints are hurtling toward dumpster fire status and would widely be considered the team that had the worst offseason if it wasn't for what happened in san francisco.

as for atlanta, i don't buy the hype around dan quinn at all.  he ran a very simple scheme in seattle that worked exceptionally well thanks to the biggest concentration of talent in one secondary we've seen in the salary cap era.  atlanta has a good piece or two in the secondary but their front 7 can't stop a plastic bag floating in the wind and one rookie isn't going to change that unless they've drafted the next luke kuechly (they didn't).

lovie smith is quarterback kryptonite until proven otherwise and although the bucs are certainly looking good at the offensive skill positions there are still too many question marks on that offensive line for me to think they're going to surpass us for the division.  i don't think they're built in a way that can attack our defense.

our baseline on the offensive line outside of the left tackle position falls into the "good" category.  our front 7 may be entering the preseason hobbled by a few nicks and cuts but it's still a reasonably deep unit, especially compared to the rest of the division.  the linebacker corps goes unchallenged as the best in the league so it's hardly worth mentioning that.  the secondary consists of a nice mix of hungry young players with something to prove and veterans.  cam is healthy, kelvin benjamin looks ready to improve going in to year two, we have an explosive return threat on special teams again, and deangelo williams isn't going to be stealing carries anymore.  i think that could be worth 9 wins.

We have added solid to good depth to all three phases of a team that was able to win 7 games last season, as well as become division champions for two years straight.  This ship is not going backwards with Gettleman at the helm. The additional talent will help us build upon what we were able to accomplish in 2014.

Defense....

We have improved in the secondary. Luke is going into year 4 he SHOULD be almost fully formed. TD shows no sign of slowing down. Shaq is as someone put it "the closest thing to a weapon one can have on Defense"

Big thing for me is the line will be better than last year. Not focusing on the ends (Frank may surprise) let's focus on our two DT's. All I've ever heard about drafting a DT is it takes 3 years for them to really come into their own. That in year 3 it tends to click....

Guess what year Star and KK are going into?

We will win 8 games this year.  Worst case scenario, we split with our division.  That gives us 3 wins.  We play the Jaguars, Texans, Titans, Redskins, and Giants.  That is 5 more wins.  Giving us 8.

If, if we happen to lose one of those very winnable games listed above, we have just as likely a chance of sweeping the bucks, falcons, or saints.  Or stealing a victory from the Seahawks, Eagles, Colts, Packers, or Cowboys.   There is no way possible we finish the year with less than 8-8 record.

    • Well if we are being realistic doesn't what you just lined out already tell us where we are at? If the rookie UDFA kicker was the savior more often than not and we had a bottom 5 offense despite us having a #1 pick behind center who was billed predraft as a mini Payton Manning is that just going to magically change trajectory overnight with a tougher schedule added in? If we are going to repeat as division champions then it will be with the defense doing the heavy lifting. So keep adding to it.
    • Everyone keeps arguing all these teams have great TE's that made them successful. THATS BS! What makes those teams great is QB play and we don't have that. So again even getting a NON-INLINE TE who can run a fast 40 time isnt going to get us anywhere without competent QB play consistently. Which we don't have by a long shot. So honestly all these great teams have a TE argument doesnt hold water to me.  Mahomes would be nasty without Kelce, Lamar would blow you away without Andrews, does it help? of course any weapon will help but only if you have someone making those correct reads week to week. When we have that then I'd be all in on a game breaking TE but unfortunately we are stuck with one of the most inconsistent starting QB's currently in the NFL.  Not to mention all the TE's mentioned are COMPLETE TE's not just a receiving threat with drop issues which Sadiq does. Argue all you want but nothing will change that fact other than getting a consistent QB week to week in a Panthers uniform which doesnt seem to be happing anytime soon.
    • They don't have guidelines for hand size for the backup QB.
