Panthers | Goodson expected to return kickoffs Week 1

Mon, 07 Sep 2009 18:37:30 -0700

The Associated Press reports Carolina Panthers RB Mike Goodson is expected to return kickoffs for the team's Week 1 game.

Woops meant kickoffs. My bad.

He did it all preseason. Probably will have Rosario back with him to keep him in check and block. The concern is PR duty....but since they have jobs maybe they won't be as concerned of making plays and will fair catch when appropriate.

i am interested in seeing how the removal of the "wedge" will have an effect on the experienced NFL returners. I almost wonder if the change will be significant enough that the younger guys who are not used to this will make the adjustment quicker and therefore be more productive in the return game.

it seems like it will make the return guys more open to injury, but will make them rely on thier speed and quickness to make lanes and get upfield. to me, someone like mark jones will suffer greatly from this new rule, and i am glad he isnt coming back right away until we can see how all this plays out. hopefully a key player like goodson wont get injured more easily due to the change. if we can get our guys to catch the ball, i think we have some good talent.

    • When we have everyone playing like they should, we can win the Cup. That has been the biggest problem when we get to the playoffs, but this year seems to be fixed mostly. We could have had multiple if we had done this in the past.
    • Here we go Bryce Stan’s you should love this. Hell it may be one of you.  It has every cliche excuse and then some.  Unintentionally hilarious my limit was reached when he said Bryce had it hard because four play callers.
    • Luke goes in to the specifics of what he looked to accomplish in joint practices.  Basically they may work with someone on the opposing team to stress something they feel is a weakness in their own game in a different way that can be done with someone they are familiar with. That they can have predetermined stresses but since neither wants to get injured and it has absolutely no bearing on anything there is not the level of concern that would be in a preseason game.  He would also even chat with opposing OC.   It seems like an interesting nuance among the vets and savy pros.
