ESPN top 100 players--Luke doesn't make top 10

As an 18-year-old true freshman at Boston College in 2009, Kuechly racked up a ridiculous 158 tackles, second in college football. Not only did he lead college football in tackles in each of the next two seasons, he has also been his team's leading tackler in each of his last six seasons (college and pro). "He's simply the best middle linebacker in football," said one panelist. Even crazier: He's arguably the best cover linebacker in the NFL -- and he won't be 25 until nextApril.

Add it up: Kuechly leads the NFL with 473 tackles since being drafted in 2012.

This is what was written for Cam Newton. Typical Panthers bashing.

"While Newton is not an elite NFL passer, voters still see him as the difference between a competitive Carolina squad and one of the worst teams in the NFL. "You have to consider Newton in the context of what the Panthers asked him to do last year: play through broken ribs with very little pass protection and a poor receiving corps," said one panelist. Nobody doubts Newton's almost unique ability to carry a team both as a passer and often the best running option. The question is whether he'll ever have enough help to not have to be both."

They didn't put a LB in the Top 10 period.  As for Cam, seems like they graded him low and then in the commentary said he's the one that carries the entire offense.  Now, tell me, how can the number 85 best player in the NFL carry an entire offense?  To me, that makes him the best player in the NFL.  And screw the JJ Watt hype train.  Aaron Rodgers is the best player at the most difficult position, he's number 1 imo.  Watt may be top 10, but to put him ahead of Rodgers is nothing but clickbait.

I agree with what they said.

As long as there is no other LB rated higher than Luke I don't see the issue.

As far as the Luck hate, you guys might as well let it go.  He is anointed.  Short of a historical drop in stats he will be rated high by default.  Couple that with the fact that he IS a good QB and he plays in a weak division, he is going to come up high or rating forever.

The JJ Watt thing ,, its value rated. Plus the hype train is going so

That ain't Panther bashing.  That is the truth.

Look at what is around Luck on offense, look around Cam.  They started acquiring legit skill talent specifically for Luck the day he was drafted......we didn't add the first person until Cam was entering his 4th year.

I love topics like these. It tells me who are blind homers and who actually know the game.

You can make a case either way for Luke being possibly top ten. I say no, but it isn't wrong for him to be there.

And some of you, just loooooooooool

Luck is overhyped?

JJ shouldn't be top 10?

Richard Sherman isn't a top 30 player? You guys are are hilarious.

    • That can be a chicken or the egg scenario. Canales knows what the QB is good at and is not good at better than we do.  He would have reasons for not calling deep shots, if he is holding back. They could include protection concerns, as well as any Young related motivations.  I think there always the chance Bryce doesn’t see the man open down the field and it is just that simple, more than a confidence issue. Probably a mix of the two.
    • This is a partially bad take.  Willis is the only guy mentioned here that can reasonably be expected to perform at a level higher than Bryce.  Winston and Minshew is washed, and Howell was not good in Washington as a starter and didn’t field a single snap this past year. I swear the only reason people are obsessed over him is that he went to UNC.  You’re not going to have better success, or even potential for success with those guys as your QB as you would with Bryce. Now, if you want to argue this thing from a production per dollars perspective, that it’d be better to roll with one of them instead because we could allocate the savings elsewhere on the roster, that’d be a better argument IMO. I’d disagree with it; relying on a QB making less they $5MM/year that isn’t on a rookie contract is not a winning strategy.  But I could see the argument that it’s possibly a viable alternative to Bryce on a $25MM/year contract.    But no, none of those QBs are better than Bryce.
    • No team hits on every pick.  Every coach and GM will eventually get fired.   We are a better team and have greatly increased the talent on the roster. Bad GMs lead to losses.   I love the teams current setup in the front office and the process in how we look at talent and coaching.  Canales has often said we want to have a player developmental philosophy as a core tenant.  I love that combined with cutting edge analytics and good football knowledge and experience.
