I here all the bad talk about DWill? He didn't leave folks! He was let go!!! And just like any of us when we start a new job anywhere. We put in a little something extra. Stew, Payne and Wegher are a better solution! An Upgrade if you will. Glad to see he had a good night!

I think D Will is a great guy. Did it end bitterly? Sure, but I don't care how much money he made here, it hurts being rejected, and that is inevitably what getting cut is.

"We have decided to go a different direction. We will have to let you go."

Who wouldn't be upset hearing those words?

I'm sure after all the dust settles, he will look back fondly of his time here, just as I'm sure Smitty will.

All this being said, I'm eager to see Stew get his shot. I have always felt he was the better back, just couldn't stay healthy.

Stewart is our Dan Morgan on offense. No doubt he is one of the better backs in the league, but can he stay on the field? I hope he does and I hope he resigns on a team friendly deal.

Avid D will supporter, been saying this for a long long time that he still has "It", thought people were insane when they thought we could replace him with a 5th round rb, guy is good when he doesn't have defenders draped on him as soon as the ball is snapped......but everyone was bitching about him going down on first contact.Take that it is one game but d will showed flashes of this last year before and after injury I don't know how much cutting him saved but would have been nice(especially with Kelvin down) to have him this season.

DeAngelo was not the problem with the running game. The offensive line is not the major problem with the running game. The problem is you have stubborn coaches who cannot adapt to players and force the player into their system.

Either get a back for your system, or adapt to the player.

Rivera/Shula want their every down RBs to be around 230 pounds. They want them to run through the hole and use their blocks - even if it means running into defenders. They do not want RBs extending the run to the sideline while looking for a hole.

This is what is broken with the Panthers. The coaches do not know how to use their players effectively. They seem to want the John Riggins, Larry Csonka, or Jerome Bettis style of RB. DeAngelo should have always played lighter and been allowed to bounce it down the line with patience. No point in running into the back of the OL and hope for more yardage. The DL in the NFL is too big, fast, and strong to get away with that. Not to mention the OL is more athletic and quick for pass blocking in the modern NFL. Hard to find road graders team stocked up on and paid very well from previous decades. The Panthers design their runs with one hole for the back to run through if it is there. Other teams like the Patriots, Steelers, Packers, and Seahawks design running plays with 2 or 3 options for the RB to find a hole.

Shula is stuck in the past. Nothing new.

Brandon Lafell, Steve Smith, and DeAngelo Williams actually have better chances at making teams better and winning a Super Bowl now they have left the Panthers broken offensive system.

Jesus the hate is asinine, now the excuses pour in,i swear every panther that leaves or is cut automatically gets put in the "just collecting a pay check" category. Same excuse different player, guys are making up the most ridiculous excuses i've ever heard

so you're telling me being cut by use motivated d will more then the passing of his mother, because that's literal what some of you are saying.

Some of you really baffle me, you will hang on guys nuts like bersin, philly. and armnti edwards but the players who actually did something for this franchise you hate and mock constantly, and i'm guessing every player that leaves is an asshole ??? Smith,D will. who's next?

With all due respect Monsta.

Roaring Riot is struggling to establish a Panther nation that puts us at an equal position with other teams who's fans bleed their team's colors..

One thing we Panther fans can to do is to quit shytting on past Panther players who toiled for years for the Panther Nation, often with tremendous success.

See Steve Smith.

It's a disgrace.

I have a huge amount of respect for both Deangelo Williams and for Steve Smith. I recognize all the accomplishments that they had for the Panthers, and also acknowledge that they were two of the best players we've had on the team.

What I don't much care for is people that bad mouth the Panthers organization on their way out the door.

Steve Smith and Deangelo Williams were unfortunately by-products of an era of Panthers football where past accomplishments were rewarded with enormous contracts and over-extended loyalty. When DG came in and did the job of an actual GM and they were shown the door, some fans here take up for the players as if they actually know them and like it's their duty to stick up for them. Therefore, people like me get branded as "haters" for voicing an opinion that's contrary.

I've never bad mouthed Peppers. When he left he didn't poo all over the Panthers because he felt slighted in someway. He's a professional, and maintained his professionalism when he went to Chicago.

I could go on and on but I think you get the gist of my point. I don't respond well to people who play with no passion until they are shown the door, then poo on the Panthers, then use some perceived slight from this team to motivate them to perform well somewhere else. It seems very petty to me, and I cheer for the name on the front of the jersey, not the back.

With all due respect, of course. :)

With all due respect, both Smitty and D-Will had legitimate beefs in more than a few people's minds. And sometimes the perceived slight is on behalf of classless Panthers fans.

    • Same. I would prefer a MNF game earlier in the season. As if more likely has some significance in case things go south this season. If we perform well enough we could even get another game forced to a Sunday night spot later in the season.
    • Wanted to jump into this thread. Although I do not post anymore I do look in as there are a few old friends around. Loved hearing some of the names you mentioned.  Another  oldie is NanceUSMC.  He is the one who got me here from the old Observer forum.  Good guy and smart football guy. I have learned a lot from a lot of good Huddlers over the years, Over time. we have sadly lost a few who left this earth too soon.  Anyone who know of someone, it would be nice to try to make a list.  One of the more recent, CosmoGirl,  was someone that kind of hit hard.  Life sucks sometimes. Some of the best times were when we had our own tailgate and could meet up in person.  I think it made us better. Several dedicated volunteers, lead by LiverMush, started setting things up in the wee hours of each gameday morning.  Don't know all those regulars but I remember JakeFlake was one.  For you newbies...each game,  a Huddler (or a group) sponsored the food for each tailgate.  Eating was free but a donation was asked for.  At the end of the year those donations were used to buy bicycles for Toys for Tots.  Over the years Huddlers bought a lot of new bikes for kids for Christmas.  (I am guessing a couple of hundred each year.)  We had a good time getting together, got to make friends in person, and then got to feel like you were doing something good. It was truly a community. I got to meet Dan Morgan at one of our tailgates...he brought pizza from his restaurant.  How many of you remember that?  Glad the restaurant did not make it....lol. Not only have people changed, and come and gone.....but the entire nature and purpose has changed. Nothing lasts forever and we move on but we still like to think about good times. Same reason we take pictures. Want to ask a question I have not seen anyone else mention......who remembers    "The Couch" ?  We have argued, laughed, lived the ups and downs of football and dealt with a little real life along the way.  A thanks to  the Mods who keep this going.  I am sure they sacrifice a lot of their time out of love for the forum and the Panthers. Take care my friends and be well.  I will close with my new favorite quote which I think is greatly needed in these difficult times.
    • My top-5 JAGS: 1. Tommy Tremble: May not ever be top-tier, but has been solid and you never doubt the effort. 2. Cade Mays: Not bad for a 6th rounder. Hated to see him go. 3. Brady Christensen: One of the most versatile backup OLs in the NFL. Hopefully we re-sign him. 4. Trevis Gipson: Quietly was really solid depth last season. Glad we brought him back. 5. Brycen Tremayne: Has been solid depth at WR, flashing at times last year.
