Bears looking to trade Alshon???

Interestingly enough, Jeff Dickerson of ESPN writes that Chicago should being to listen to trade offers for other notable players like RB Matt Forte and WR Alshon Jeffery, now that the Bears traded away DE Jared Allen, LB Jon Bostic.

Both players are scheduled to be free agents after the season, and it’s clear that the Bears won’t be playing for a Super Bowl in 2015.

It might sound somewhat surprising to see someone suggest moving on from a 25-year-old receiver entering his prime. However, Dickerson mentions that there’s no guarantee that Jeffery wants to re-sign with them next year, and overpaying him could actually impact their rebuilding plan in some ways.

Maybe @R0CKnR0LLA was right, 2nd round pick for Alshon??? Thoughts??? Or he choose not to sign and become a free agent, but then they might franchise him

If we could get him for a 4th I would be totally for it.  The only glaring weakness on this team (assuming CJ can come back healthy) is WR.

Alshon is big, has good hands, is from the Carolinas, and wouldn't break the bank to resign.

I know Gettleman has been against trading picks for the most part, and I get it.  But as it pertains to this year... No Balls, No Baby

Before this gets any traction: Alshon is in a contract year. Therefore it's a terrible idea to give up a good pick for him for less than a full season and probably wouldn't even be able to afford him.

The Panthers can afford Alshon.  We are going to have at least $20M to spend this offseason.  Norman is going to get his, but Alshon is probably looking at a $7Mish per year payday.  Still have KB for 2 more years at a reasonable rate.

IMHO, WR is still the one area that could prevent us from being a true contender.  I don't see why Gettleman wouldn't consider

The thread title says Bears looking to trade Alshon??, but the quote looks like the ESPN writer is suggesting that the Bears should listen to trade offers for other notable players like Alshon.

I don't gather they have intent to trade him whatsoever.

True, but they have huge holes to fill and I think they realize it's time for a full-on rebuild.  It wouldn't surprise me if they intend on not re-signing Alshon or Forte (definitely not Forte).    If they couldn't get it done with Cutler + Alshon/Marshall/Forte then something isn't right.   Their defense is terrible but they traded one of the best parts of it in Allen (no way a world-beater up there either).   If I was a betting man, they'll try to trade Cutler to anyone that wants him (and someone will for a starting QB) and maybe even eat some of the salary.

    • D Carr must have really disliked the saints to wait and do this announcement after the draft has passed if he made this call a few weeks before the draft sure they would have approached it and the offseason differently.  oh well will be interesting to see how their qbs perform.  would love to see them roll with Thill and just make the whole offense towards his skillset.  Although sadly would be only playing in about half the games with how often he gets injured.
    • I have to say it's quite fascinating seeing you pivot from months and months of wailing and agonizing about threads derailing into Bryce Young slingfests only for you to turn around and do the same thing. And just for the record. Nobody in life ever attained wisdom and clarity from mistakes by having people blindly fawn over them and tell them they are above reproach and incapable of making mistakes. Our front office is just as human as we are. And based on the fact that front offices across the league outside of a handful of teams change on a fairly regular basis it's safe to say they are certainly no more infallible than the average Joe even though they possess significantly more knowledge usually. If you want a utopia where all you do is shine shoes for anyone associated with the Panthers you go right on ahead and create yourself a new community sir. More power to you.
    • I trust Morgan when it comes to LBs so I think Wallace will do well.
