According to David Newton, Cam is struggling with batted passes

If I recall, most of them occurred in the Texans game.

Playing against guys like Watt, Wilfork, and Clowney, yeah there are probably going to be a few batted passes.

He played damn good against the Saints. Cam Newton is a huge part of why we are even 3-0 in the first place. So, I'd rather focus on poo that matters, like our defense getting lit up all game by Luke McCown, and improving that moving forward. But this is David Newton we are talking about, so I generally steer clear of his articles anyway.

To be honest, I can agree with him about Cam. When a QB throws as hard as Cam does, the passes are going to come out low.  Batted passes are going to happen under that scenario.

Cam has been throwing with the same mechanics (aside from maybe footwork) since day one...  His only issue with batted passes came against the Texans, who coincidentally, cause all QBs to have that same problem.  It's usually an issue when the OL is getting pushed back into the QB and/or aren't engaged with the pass rushers at the moment the ball is thrown.

So now the common wisdom has changed from "Cam always overthrows his passes"?

I wish you guys would make up your damn minds... lol.

How many fingers aRe broken and palm contusions will Cam's batted balls cause to defenders? I'm saying over/under 12 combined on the season.

Our receivers need catchers mots with an added mesh-pocket to catch Cam's heaters.

Have any of you ever had the point end of a football catch you in the chest? It hurts, lemme tell ya'.

It's not really all off Cam's shoulders. A QB has to be able to find throwing lanes.

This is correct. His 6'5" height may actually hurt him in this regard because can see over the lineman without any trouble so he may not see the need to find lanes as much as the shorter QB's. He also throws a lower ball which makes it more susceptible to being batted. The OL is also partially at fault as is mentioned in the article as well as the fact that DL often will try to play contain against his scrambling ability which means they are more willing to sit back and put their hands up rather than go all in on getting to the QB.

Newton is not a good beat reporter but he is right in this instance. It is something Cam needs to work on along with like 5 other things I can think of off the top of my head. Just because he is playing at an MVP candidate level doesn't mean there aren't things he can't improve upon and he isn't immune to criticism. It's the same for Rodgers(takes unnecessary sacks because he will hold onto the ball too long) and Brady(doesn't throw a great deep ball and will panic if there is pressure up the middle). No QB is perfect and all of them can get better.

You guys come up with the most ridiculous things to get worked up about.

I didn't get to watch the game, but after watching the highlights I noticed what looked like Cam throwing sidearm bullets at Olsen, they seemed to come out low and could easily be batted down, but it looked like Cam had found the appropriate throwing lane for those types of passes. I don't think batted passes are going to continue to be an issue, but it does happen from time to time to a lot of QBs
