Nice article on KK.  I think he can be great.

Interesting situation approaching.  Two young star quality DTs.  Yeah, Yeah, Yeah Gettleman is going to do his magic and keep both but for just for argument.

You can only keep one.  Do you keep Star or do you Keep Short?

For me.  Short would get the nod just because he seems to be on the floor longer.

We will keep Short as he will still be cheaper to resign than Star based on his draft position. As for Star, let's see what he does this year and next. Hard to say which will be better by the time we have to resign them.

Draft position after the fact has nothing to do with who will be paid more after the rookie deal.

Whoever played better on the field will be getting paid more.

Short was a massive steal in the draft. Easily the best pass rushing DT in that draft. Dumb ass GM's

We made the mistake with Witherspoon and Morgan, I hope we don't do it again!

Spoon wanted the money dude.  He left Carolina because he thought he could be a mike and get paid mike money elsewhere (which he did).

It would have been a mistake to have kept Spoon IMO at the price it would have taken.

Star is underrated when compared to Short by many Panther fans.  Too many only notice the flash,  but fail to realize that it's Star pushing the pocket taking up multiple blockers.  Much of the flash everyone likes is because of the unflashy work Star does.

Both Star and Short are vital to our defense.  Our defense starts with the front seven, so if Gettleman has to make a future cap choice, he'll pass on signing Norman to make sure he has the space to sign both DT's.  So, I have no doubts that Gettleman will get both signed, we can easily stagger the big cap hits.

    • My thoughts on Carolina's post-season run: Obviously, the season began with a below average Freddie Andersen and everyone hoping Kochetkov would pick up the slack, until he got hurt. Enter Brandon Bussi who had a made-for-TV movie type run until the end of the season, when he came crashing back to earth, his save % drops under .900 and the team needs to score 5-6 goals to win games. Freddie has shown signs of a resurgence and Bussi looked pretty good the last 2 games of the season, but both sample sizes are small and questions abound for all 3 goalies. The physicality of playoff hockey will take its toll. Save for a few players, the Canes best players are small, their top 2 lines are small and there's no getting around that. The only way to protect the size disadvantage is a strong forecheck. Allowing opposing teams to establish the offensive zone and create board battles with smaller players will hurt Carolina. The Stankoven line could be a difference-maker. If they continue to play well against lower defensive pairs, it only adds to the depth of the team.  The Aho line had stretches of absenteeism during the season. The Canes cannot afford to have them dry up offensively and leave the scoring to Ehlers and the Stankoven line. If they aren't performing well, teams will simply roll their best lines out on the Canes best playing lines.  If the Canes can get by Ottawa and get some help from Boston against Buffalo, I think they have a legit shot to make the finals. Make no mistake, I think their toughest challenges are Ottawa and Buffalo in the East.
