Mike Shula - update for the haters

Recommended Posts

For what it's worth - Last week Greg Cosell said that Shula's run formations were the most intricate and diverse in the league.

Hell, Alex Marvez, NFL Radio host, tweeted out after the game that it was time for Shula to start getting serious consideration for a HC job. Now I think that may be a little too far, but I agree he has done a very good job this year. He gets way more hate than he deserves, but he still has a few faults.

It's time to start talking about @Panthers OC Mike Shula as legitimate head coaching candidate. Amazing job again this season

A lot of people on this board don't like it, but speaking of calls catered towards Cams strengths, I love how many designed runs Shula is calling for Cam this year. They have probably accounted for 3-4 first downs and 25-40 yards a week for our offense. I know people on the board are afraid about "what happens when Cam hurts himself" but Cam is not an Elite passer. What makes him elite is he has a Cannon arm with the ability to take off and run over linebackers. Designing plays to let him run the ball full steam has been very effect this year and I give Shula props for that.

Shula is awful, has been for decades, and we would be much better without him.

I have to respect your position when you replace football acumen with bolded font.  What facts do you have to support your statement?  Don't use wins and losses, the only stat that really matters, and how teams have had success with such poor offensive talent.  This team is 5-0 with no real threat at WR.   They just went into Seattle and won--who was the last team to win in Seattle.  (A:  The 5-0 Panthers)

Look, most of the people who criticize him don't want to see what he is doing or admit what he has to work with.  So, yeah, tar and feather him, run him out of town, hit reset, start over.

He is not the greatest, but he is doing well this year, for the most part.  It bothers me that people can't see it, it infuriates me that a Panther fan would refuse to see it.  If you think he sucks, you weren't paying attention Saturday.  We beat the Hawks in Seattle with 2 turnovers that spotted them points.

Do you think the seam route to Olsen was simply a screw up?  No. He didn't show the seam route (even though the week before, Cincy burned him on it).  Shula saved it.  So when we needed it most, they had not really seen it.   They thought we weren't doing it.  They are an aggressive, gambling defense.  Shula set them up.

Pay attention son.  You will never see what you don't want to see.

I read a quote from Olsen saying that they ran the same play out of the same formation the series before. But I agree with your overall post.
