Our 2016 FA Class

Took a look at our salaries and all I saw, concerning our offseason, was Remmers, Tolbert, Silotolu, Alexander, Norman, Harper and Tillman.

Remembers is a sure-fire must sign and I think Big Frank will be an asset once he heals up. Both of these should be fairly cheap to re-sign. I think Tillman will probably retire and Harper isn't good enough that he can't be replaced by another vet-minimum FA if need be.

this works out nice if we cut CJ (who I think will be our June 1st cut,) and get Norman to sign a 5-year deal that is cap-friendly.

i think it's paramount that we keep our OL intact and hoping Williams will be ready to take over Oher's T position after the 2016 season.

Remmers will likely get a nice deal on the market if we don't resign him.... I'm ok with Darryl Williams taking that spot if Remmers leaves

IMO, Remmers has to be made a priority because his versatility will keep cohesiveness on the O-line.  No way on earth do I want to go back to the turd we trotted out early last year and Remmers gives us the ability to suffer an injury and remain fine because he can competently play both tackles and Center (and might be able to play guard, just hasn't been used there).  He won't be dirt cheap, but he isn't gonna command top flight money either.

Glad you brought this up. First, Big Frank will NOT be a free agent. He did not receive credit for last year since he was suspended twice for 14 total games. A player needs 6 games of being on a 53 roster or IR to get a year of credit toward free agency. We never released him, so he is still on his 4 year rookie contract.

Second, Remmers has 3 years of experience, so he will be a Restricted free agent, not Unrestricted like the others. We can make a qualified 1 year offer and he won't be able to walk.

Norman will be the big bill next year with the franchise tag. No doubt we will tag him and try again to work out a long term deal. We will sign Remmers also IMO. The rest are a wash. Either older, hurt, or just not worth keeping. Maybe Tolbert stays if we can get him on a very good deal. DG will get it done.

Tolbert already turned down a larger offer before to come play for us when he was a free agent in San Diego. He'll probably want to stay as long as possible for vet minimums to try to grab as many rings as he can.

Don't imagine Tillman wanting to leave chasing bigger money, either, since his daughter's health was a big reason he came here.

We have the option of making the top qualifying offer to Remmers that would cost another team a 1st round pick to sign him. This hasn't happened for any restricted free agent for several years. Would cost us about $3 million for 1 year to the best of my knowledge.

Alexander won't be a free agent next year. Those suspensions last year cost him the chance to earn a year towards free agency, so he'll be on the last year of his rookie contract and won't hit free agency until 2017

Silatolu and Harper. Meh.

Norman will cost, but we have the cap room for it. We don't even need to cut or re-structure the last big 3 Hurney contracts CJ, Kalil, and Stewie to do it.

"But we'll need money to sign free agents!!!"  Really? Where? What position group will need a big dollar player? WR? Benji's coming back and we'll have our #2 thru #6 determined at the end of this season for next year. There is literally no group that needs a big infusion of free agent talent anywhere on this roster next year.

That Gettlefather is fuggin' good.

If our offensive line continues its great play and Remmers continues to be a big part of that I suspect he will have suitors since we all know the OT position around the league is pretty thin.  Doesn't mean we will have to break the bank for him or anything but I don't think we will be getting him for the vet minimum either.

    • Who is "they"?  Who in the media still argues that Bryce Young could reach the levels that people thought he would before the draft? I mean, nobody is going to come outright and bash the kid.  By all accounts he's a good dude and I think that is why you don't see the media come after him like they did Zach Wilson.
    • It started during the Denver game after that first drive. i don’t think the panthers got a first down again until the fourth quarter.
    • The Panthers will finish with at least 7-8 wins.  So that leaves them with only two "smart" choices in my opinion: 1. Sign a reasonably priced free agent QB and see if they are better than Bryce Young in training camp - The issue is there will be very little options.  There is almost no way the Colts let Daniel Jones walk.  Rodgers, Flacco, and Wilson will likely retire (and is Wilson better than Bryce anyway?).  Winston is under contract with the Giants for another year.  That leaves Mariota, which I'm all for, but the Commanders will make a big push to keep him given Daniels' injury history.  Outside of him, there is literally nobody else. 2. Stick with Bryce Young for one more year - Nobody wants this to happen, but the Panthers won't be in a position to draft one in the first round and it isn't a strong class to begin with.  Mendoza, Simpson (and do we really want an Alabama QB?), and Moore will likely all be off the board by the time we pick.  Bryce isn't good, but we are still 5-4.  I'd rather continue to build the rest of the team than reach for a QB.  Then we could set ourselves up nicely in 2027 to make a splash play if we choose.  This is how we should have approached years past; stuck with Kyle Allen or Sam Darnold or Teddy Bridgewater and kept building the team until we were ready to make a splash.  But every year we panicked and did something stupid. There is the idea you could throw a dart at a guy in the later arounds, but IMO this just isn't a good QB class and odds are it will be a wasted pick.  I still think we need a lot of depth on the defense.  I'd rather focus there.
