Has "Shula" Redeemed Himself?

I think a lot of his improvement is centered around Cam making better decisions.  The offensive line's improvement is a big element of that too.

I would be interested in knowing just how different this offense is than the one he installed two years ago, or if it's the same but just much better executed.

A lot of Cam and Shula's improvement is just the Oline playing better

So better execution is indeed yielding better results?

I've been one of the biggest Shula haters and I'll admit that the play calling is much better.   Yeah, offensive line has something to do with it, and year we need to mix up our 1st down play calls a bit better, but overall, with what he has, it's been pretty decent.

Not just execution.  Shula puts together the game plan, and calls in plays for Cam, heavily influenced by the personnel that the Eagles have on the field.  At the line, Cam looks at the defensive formation and may audible to one of the other plays, depending on the coverage he sees.  Then the ball is snapped.

I think that over the last three years Shula has improved in his packages and game planning, and I also think that Cam is doing a better job in the choices he's making, and I think the line is more talented and executing better.  A great case in point is the dump-off to Stewart late in the game vs. Seattle.  If he tries to force it down the field, then the play goes nowhere, we lose, and Shula looks like an idiot for calling that play at that time.  Instead, Cam takes his safety valve option and we march.  Shula looks like he calls a brilliant game, Cam looks unbeatable, and we're all happy.

BTW, I say that I think there because there are so many factors involved.  It's entirely possible that Shula has remained constant and this is all because of Cam or better execution.  Or maybe he's gotten tons better.  It's probably a combination of factors.  I'm not as bold as Panthers55 in defending Shula, but I do have faith in him just because Rivera believed, and he's shown a willingness to shake up his staff if someone's not performing.  Obviously, Rivera has thought Shula performed well enough to stay around, so who am I to judge?

    • This is huge may not be a trap game but this plays a major part in what they want to do. If we can get some pressure on Sam we know what he does with pressure coming hit and heavy. Also we may be able to take the top off their defense a backup safety trying to stop TMac or Cooker over the top or forcing him to play the backend should allow us to run the ball somewhat effectively. Either they allow some runs or we take some shots and if Bryce and whoever can connect deep we’ll be in business for another big time win against a top notch opponent. Might not be a trap game but health travel game plans all play a major role in each weeks game plan and this week might be leaving our way. We’re missing some replaceable pieces they’re missing key anchors to the offense and defense major difference time to solidly ourselves at one of the top teams in the nfc tomorrow fellas buckle up.
    • Yes.  If I am not mistaken, we need to sign Coker to the ERFA tender and insist that XL spends his spring and summer at a WR camp and not Coon huntin on his four wheeler.  XL was raw when we picked him--which is why I wanted to go another direction--and we are seeing how raw.  He is basically learning a position.     The Panthers will make their move in 2026 to be an NFL powerhouse behind Bryce.  Bryce needs intelligent WRs who catch the ball.  That said, we need a solid #2 to challenge XL and make cutting him easy, if necessary.  A #2 WR (intented to be a #1 by now) with under 400 yards is embarrassing.   On offense, you have to ask, "Where can we get better?"  In my view, #2 WR, TE (although they are improving) and maybe C (again, if we re-sign Mays, he is trending up and at 26, entering his prime--I say stay with him and find competition later in the draft (not good for C).  OL depth maybe?  In other words, XL is a glaring weak spot.
