If you're worried about the Cardinals

Omega Atrocity

I keep seeing Panthers fans on twitter and on here (and even sports writers I like) worrying about either playing the Cardinals in the playoffs or losing the number one seed to them. So here a few points to keep in mind:

  • Arizona has a tough schedule left: Vikings, @Eagles, Packers, Seahawks
  • One of their 2 loses came to Landry freaking Jones, and their offense put up 13 on the Steelers defense
  • Carson Palmer is in year 13 and Cam Newton already has more playoff appearances and wins. Seriously, I keep seeing people (other fans) saying Newton will choke in the playoffs, but they have faith in Palmer? Guy has never been out of the wild card round of the playoffs and he was drafted in 2003.
  • Carson Palmer (0-2) playoff stats (2005 and 2009): 19/37, 212 yds, 1 td, 1 int
  • Cam Newton (1-2) playoff stats (2013 and 2014): 57/93, 711 yds, 5 tds, 5 ints

Can the Cardinals beat us? Of course they could, but so can anyone in the playoffs. We are really good, I don't really think we should especially worry about any team, I trust our guys to beat anyone right now.

Edit: As SCMunnerlyn1 pointed out below Palmer's horrible knee injury was very early in his second start, my bad on that oversight. He really only has one true playoff appearance.

Their remaining schedule is tough with all opponents fighting for the playoffs, yes, even the Eagles.  Like you said, any team can beat any other team, but I like our chances against the Cards, or anyone else for that matter.  Nice information on Palmer, didn't realize he had such abysmal playoff numbers, but then again, I forgot he was with the Bengals for so long.

I'll give Palmer a pass in one of his playoff losses. The Bengals likely would have taken a giant poo on the Steelers had that DT not dove at his knee two plays into the game.

Oh yeah, you're right I forgot he got injured in that second playoff game. He really only has one played.

AZ is def a quality team, but great point made about Palmer's lack of success (not to mention his lack of appearances period when you consider he's a 12 year vet) in the postseason.

Thanks for the info; I am ashamed to say I was one of those fans a little worried about the Cardinals. I think it has more to do with the lost to them back in 2009.

^^ This came to mind a couple weeks ago for me too, but then I reminded myself, this team is wayyy better than that '09 team and I don't think it's even close.

Its going to be a tough road to the Super Bowl. I'm not laying down any bets that we'll make the super bowl but I'm not betting against this team either. There's something this team has that just allows them to find a way to win. It's the same way I felt about Auburns team when they won the national championship. After cam did what he did in the Alabama game, you just knew that he had "it". I believe he's found that "it" factor on the professional level. Can we get beat? Absolutely. Will it be the cardinals? Maybe. Could it be any of the teams we have left on our schedule? Sure. But I'm not betting against this team. They just have "it".

the only team that scares me is the seahawks because Russell Wilson can do magic get away from the front 4, but without Graham I wonder if they'll be able to do anything at all.

Yeah, I believe if they still had Graham they would be a significant threat, seeing as how he did the most damage receiving wise against us when we played them. Without him though, they don't worry me as much.

They've honestly looked better on offense since Graham went out for the year.

    • He's handing off play calling duties to fuging Brad Idzik as well so, either that mouth breather can run the playbook and Canales can grow as an all around head coach or it will be a horrible decision and both of them and BY can screw off. I'm fine with that as long as it isn't just another excuse for BY to get another year with another coach worthy of working around his limitations as a qb.
    • Not only for Andersen but the whole team, having not beat the Habs this season before tonite.  Shows them that they aren't jinxed.
    • I understand why people say things like it could be worse in relation to Tepper but it just doesn't jive for me. Are the optics bad? Yes. Would I want her to be the owner of my team? No. But I mean she's only been owner for a year and the Colts overall are a better run organization. As far as I know they've also never had the distinction of having the worst win percentage in all of professional sports either. Tepper has owned this team for 8 years and about the only thing that has been consistent has been the ability to continue to find different ways to achieve new lows. Even now people are saying things are different yada yada but we said these same things at certain points under Rhule Fitterer and Reich. I'm going to wait to see how the rubber meets the road this upcoming season before I make any strong conclusions about anything in relation to the longevity under this franchise going forward.
