Statically, is Peyton Manning the worst QB the Panthers have/will play?

He's protected the ball very well since week 10.  They weren't scoring a lot of points in that span either though.

Yeah he's not the Manning of old that's for sure.  But Denver doesn't really ask him to be that Manning.  Denver is all about their defense.  If they win this game it won't be because of Manning, it will be because they turned us over and stopped the run.

The Broncos heading heading into the superbowl is essentially the same type team Rivera coached against Peyton and the Colts in the superbowl almost 10 years ago.

What I mean by that Is the bears had the best defense in the league that year but a horrible offense, but they still kept  managing to win. What I said all that year was that the bears has to keep their opponents to less than 20 because they couldn't win in a shootout.  Also, if they ever fell behind by 2 or more TDs at any point in the game they were going to lose because they weren't a team capable of making a sizeable comeback.  the defense won their battle enough that a weak offense capable of only scoring 2 or 3 times a game could pull it off. If for some reason the defense faltered they were done.

i see that same situation in Denver.  The Colts were,  on the other hand,  an unusually (for them anyway) balanced team with a defense solid enough to keep a weak offense like the bears down, but an offense capable of exploiting the few weak spots the bears D had. 

Now I think we are stronger than that colts team on all fronts, but I also think that the Broncos aren't too far off from where the bears were that year.

It's just interesting to me how the tables have turned since then for that Rivera vs Peyton rematch.

Perhaps, but stats don't mean much. That said, even though he hasn't really passed the eye test either he's still Peyton Manning and Denver is still a dangerous team. I don't think the Panthers will underestimate them and I hope they come out and just immediately grind them under their heel.

If our dline gets pressure and can get to Peyton we will win. It all starts with stopping the run and forcing the Broncos to pass to beat us. Create turnovers, stuff the run, get pressure. Cam just needs to protect the ball

For the regular season, in passing yards and touchdowns thrown, Manning is the worst we've faced this season, with the exception of fill in QBs. And only Bortles has thrown more interceptions, and he didn't miss a game, so he had more opportunities to grab those INTs than Manning.

That being said, it's still Manning. He understands this game better than some head coaches and if there is a weakness in a defense, he can exploit it. He has good, mighty good, receivers and tight ends and a respectable running game to work with. He also has a defense that, like ours, can give him good field position.

What he doesn't have is much time. That o-line was breaking down pretty badly against New England and he'll have his hands full calling protections before the snap against the Panther's defense. And while he is shouting audibles, Luke will be opposite him adjusting just the same. There's more game tape on Manning than any other active player in the league -- at this point in his career, the only surprise move for him is calling a QB sneak. And he already did that versus the Patriots (sorta). In addition, the other time he is short on is the kind in the hour glass of a player's career. He's shaking that glass now, trying to make sure not a single grain of sand is left over. Will it run out before the end of the game, or will he miraculously find just enough?

If Carolina takes care of the ball and dictates the tempo of the game...  both realistic goals, the outcome is clear.

Manning and the Broncos do not have the ability to keep up with a high scoring opponent, the numbers are their for all to see, plain as day.
