Does this team become a legendary team if we win the SB convincingly?

People will debate which team was best 'til the cows come home because that's an answer that is not provable. Of course there may be some distinctions between a single season and a dynasty. One thing about it though, when most people think of great teams in relation to history, the team is always preceded by the year (i.e., the '85 Bears). The '15 Panthers will always be in the conversation, and that's all that one can ask for. That is reward enough.

the 2015 Panthers will forever be a product of STRENGF OF SKEJOOL

it's stupid, but it's true

The 72 Dolphins' opponents had like a .367 winning percentage, only two teams above .500, no one from their regular-season schedule made the playoffs... but we sure never hear about that.

If the Panthers go 18-1, defeating The Seahawks, Cardinals, and the currently fashionable "vaunted" Bronco defense, then they would have deserved one year all time status for sure.

You go 18-1 you are one of the greatest TEAMS ever.  We aren't talking Dynasty just Season.

As they say, it is hard to win in the NFL.  18 - 1 means you are a great team.  Only 1 team in NFL history will end up with a better percentage point and that is Miami Dolphins 1972.  New England finished 18-1 but lost the SB.  I believe only the Chicago Bears finished 18-1.  Regardless no one will have a better record.

You can argue all you want among those teams but YOU HAVE TO INCLUDE CAROLINA.

However, let's win this one and then we can talk about it.

In addition to the '85 Bears, there was another 18-1 team that won the super bowl, the 1984 '49ers.

Also, not sure if it's been posted, but there's an EXCELLENT article posted at USA Today which shows how we currently rank among the top 10 Super Bowl winning teams of all time, by various stats.

Here's an excerpt from the USA Today article I linked above:

The Panthers have played the “nobody believes in us” card all season long, and up until a certain point, they were totally justified in doing so.

But after finishing the regular season 15-1 and tearing through the NFC playoffs — and two teams many believed would beat the Panthers, Seattle and Arizona — there has been some talk about whether this Carolina team, should it beat the Broncos in Super Bowl 50, is one of the greatest teams of all-time.

Only two teams have ever finished a season 18-1 and won the Lombardi trophy, so, with a win, the Panthers would join an exclusive class with the 1985 Bears and 1984 49ers. Both of those teams are widely considered top five Super Bowl-winning teams. Would Carolina get the same consideration with a win? Let’s look into the numbers.

Nine teams have won a Super Bowl with at least 14 regular season wins. The Panthers would be the 10th to do so. We’ll also throw in the 1992 Cowboys, who went 13-3, to give us a nice group of teams that all have legitimate claims to being among the best teams ever.

Here’s our teams in order of winning percentage:

1972 Dolphins
1984 49ers
1985 Bears
2015 Panthers
1978 Steelers
1989 49ers
1991 Redskins
1998 Broncos
2004 Patriots
1992 Cowboys

Just ranking the teams by winning percentage is obviously flawed since strength of schedule plays a large role in how many games a team wins. But using strength of schedule alone is also flawed since it’s out of a team’s control. So we’ll combine the two — through the magic of multiplication! — to come up with a number we’ll call “Strength of Winning Percentage.”

SOW

The ‘72 Dolphins take a big hit due to having the easiest schedule of this group. Carolina ranks eighth on the list and has the second-easiest schedule behind Miami.

Wins aren’t the only measure of a team’s dominance; in fact, they aren’t even the best measure. Point differential typically has more predictive value compared to winning percentage, so let’s see how these teams stack up in average margin of victory.

POINTMARGIN

There's more in the article about strength of playoff victories (margin of victory), and then an averaging of all 3 stats...

It would definitely help cement this team's legacy to get a big win (21 point+ margin of victory) over Denver.

That is a pretty good gauge.  I definitely think Carolina will win.  Not sure about 21 points but we clearly have the confidence to do it.

The exact point I was going to make.  Nobody remembers strength of schedule or stats when thinking about the legacy of a team.  They only think about wins and losses...specifically, whether or not they won the Super Bowl.  Winning the SB with an 18-1 record will automatically put the 2015 Panthers in the discussion for greatest team ever, no matter what happens in the future.  Continued dominance will solidify their spot, but just winning after having the season we had will mean they are part of the conversation forever.

Next year's team will be better.

On paper I agree. But ill be shocked if we dominate the league next year more so than we have this year. I can easily see us being back in the Super Bowl, but the team this year just has a special feeling. They play like they know theyre the best and theyre gonna beat you up for 60 minutes. And it definitely feels like its Cam's league. He's at a rise to the top that only Steph Curry in the NBA can compare to
