What purpose is there having Teddy Williams on our team?

He's made the occasional good tackle here and there this year, but...

- He basically never sees the field on defense

- Led the team in idiotic penalties this year

- Was the biggest reason (along with Jacobs) why that Broncos punt returner was able to run it into field goal range

A lot has been said about the failings of the tackles, Cotchery, Tolbert, and even Cam in the Super Bowl; but I haven't seen one word about Teddy Williams. The guy's suckage flies under the radar in a Charles Godfrey-like manner. I really hope he's not back on the team next year, big mistake to keep him on the 53-man roster after preseason.

Williams may well be not on the team, but you really answered your own question in the first sentence. He made some good plays. Dude's job is special teams, so of course he is only going to see the field a limited amount of time.  He doesn't get paid like Cotchery, Tolbert or Cam, nor is his job with the team nearly as important as theirs, so he is held to a different standard. That being said, he provides good value, and I am not going to let one unfortunate play in the Super Bowl jade my opinion of his overall body of work (and I take the same approach to any player). We're going to have to look at what he provides, look at the options, and weigh the advantages and disadvantages.

He and some others are the result of a team pulling itself out of 'cap strapped mode'. You fill the roster the best you can with the dollars you have, then when you're richer, you can have nicer things (in this case, better players). Some of our bottom of the roster guys may be some other team's filler material next season, or maybe out of the NFL entirely until injuries hit some team hard (see McClain, Finnegan).

One word…Potential. He's 6'3'' with a long frame and plays corner. DG probably hoping that Wilks and the rest of the staff can groom him the way they groomed Norman.

    • 5 straight completions in the 4th quarter to get into the red zone and then score a stand up rushing TD and celly in one of the best defenses faces to bring the score within 1 possession against the super bowl champs is "stunned" to you?
    • yes, if you read what I said - that was due to his record breaking 245 yard 4th quarter performance in garbage time when the Seahawks were already celebrating. If Bryce puts up big numbers in the 4th quarter, people like you are quick to call it garbage time stats but seem to get selective when other QB's do it because it doesn't fit your narrative.  also, I'm logical enough to admit that Drake is a great QB and his performance had a lot to do with his protection, play calling, and other aspects. The game does not fall completely on the QB. Just like how the Panthers were still in the game vs Seattle until Horn's penalty changed that. It is a team sport, so many factors, players, refs, coaches are involved and it only takes one thing to change the game. the obsession with Bryce is just nauseating at this point and if you pay attention on here, it's the same 10 users quoting and pieing each other. it's super weird and everywhere else you go, opinions on Bryce are trending upwards. the way the season ended, the vibe at the stadium, the performance, should have everyone excited about this next season. Idk, maybe I just look at life and my entertainment outlets differently than others.
    • Are we sure something hasnt happened to him because that seems pretty shitty to simply abandon this place
