USA Today: Tom Brady said the exact same thing as Cam Newton about losing and no one cared

Outside of Boston, Tom Brady isn’t exactly the most well-liked quarterback around for a variety of different reasons that we won’t go into right now. But the heat he gets for his attitude is nothing compared to the wave that crashed over Cam Newton after he walked out of his post-Super Bowl press conference on Sunday. His critics came back for more, too, after he refused to apologize for his actions.

Newton, as relayed by USA Today:

“I’ve been on the record saying that I’m a sore loser. Who likes to lose? You show me a good loser and I’m going to show you a loser. It’s not a popularity contest. I am here to win football games …. I have said it since Day 1. I am who I am. I know what I’m capable of and I know where I am going. If you want me to conform, I’m not that guy. If you want me to be that type of person, I’m not that. I am happy to say that. This league is a great league with or without me. I understand that. I am my own person. I take pride in that.”

What’s interesting is that, back in 2005, Tom Brady said something almost identical to Newton during a 60 minutes profile and there wasn’t much of a fuss about it.

This quote is from the segment, which was entitled “Tom Brady: The Winner.” Brady was asked about how competitive he is with everything, even with silly things like backgammon:

“I’m a pretty good winner. I’m a terrible loser. And I rub it in pretty good when I win. But as soon as I lose, those backgammon sets, I broke more backgammon sets. I’ve dropped elbows on ’em. I don’t know. It’s like I wish I had a punching bag nearby sometimes.”

Again,... like Cam said.  Its not an issue for CAM,..its an issue Hacks in the media who are bottom feeders keep pushing so people like us click their stupid articles and give them ratings.

Just stop clicking these articles and feeding these trolls..... its like TV shows that people complain about. If you flip it to the channel and complain,.... THEY WIN and its staying on because you gave them ratings.

Just ignore and boycott. Dont click and eventually they get cancelled and can learn to go work for a living.

I used to break video game controllers with a hammer and busted my football helmet on more than one occasion after a loss. I hate losing.

My athletic prime is well behind me and now I play co-ed rec league bullshit softball and I still lay into 45 year old women for not hustling to first.

I'm a shitty loser. But when we win I usually buy all the beer at the pizza parlor after the game.

In 10 years Newton will have a literal Army of haters that will put even tom brady to shame.... and I fuging love it, losing the superbowl sucks and I hate how people try and bad mouth cam, but I honestly wouldn't have it any other way. In the early years Rivera Preached about staying Relevant, well huddle while we might not have our Lombardi we have fully arrived and are relevant, I see the front page of /r/ nfl and /sp/ has multiple cam newton threads, it really is awesome.

I've never been able to understand the criticism of how Cams handles losing. I would be a whole lot more pissed if when we were losing Cam was yucking it up, cutting up and laughing with some teammates.  Even something as insignificant as a regular season Middle School or a H.S. football. If we got beat I'd get so mad I would literally cry after the Game. I walked through the post game lined becaused we were required, but I wouldn't ever shake hands or congratulate the opposing team.

Cam is held to a higher standard,  because he isn't white.                Only white qbs are allowed to be sore losers........because that just means they are passionate about winning and hate losing.     If a black qb is a sore loser,  it means he is a stupid child.            Apparently.

THAT IS WHAT EXCITES ME!!! Right, wrong, or indifferent, Tom Brady will go down as one of the best QB's in NFL History if he hasn't already. Failure drives some people to be better than they were before and Brady epitomizes that occurrence. After the Spy Gate stuff comes out the Patriots have the highest scoring offense in the league the next season. Last season he was crucified for footballs being under-inflated in below freezing temperatures and came out this season playing lights out.

If Cam is able to build on a 50 TD season, what will the result be next season?

    • Lol.  Now you make me defend DG. We had the best IOL in the league under DG and Oher looked solid until he got that bad concussion. DG drafted Moton and Daryl Williams as well. The OL fell apart under Hurney 2.0 and Fitterer. DG also drafted Star and Short. Sorry, but that was all in 5 drafts so let’s not make stuff up about not trying to improve hog mollies. Gettleman did a ton wrong and took the wrong guys, but he and Rivera had a deep and talented team and it got blown up really quickly. Also, I love Cam but he wasn’t the best QB in the league. He had the best year in 2015 but he wasn’t Brady. I think Dan has had a solid offseason, way better than last year but I’m not putting on rose colored glasses until we actually have a 10 win season. Again, Dave and Ron had 3 10+ wins seasons out of 5.
    • Yeah I wont often comment on a coddled generation and participation trophies but this sort of begs for it. Also how did an athlete achieve at that level without getting a thicker skin?
    • Right, basically what I said. Dude is crowning Dan after a 5-12 season and 1 draft, which as of right now, wasn’t good. I wasn’t judging Morgan at all. People read what they want to read like that I loved Gettleman and think he was awesome. Nope. All I said is that it’s way too freaking early to act like Morgan is amazing. I used the Gettleman/Rivera record just like I mentioned that Rhule almost beat both #1 seeds in this first year. Morgan/Canales’ team would need to win 11 a year to get to a similar record as Gettleman/Rivera’s first 5. If you are going to given Morgan a pass for bad talent, we were 15-33 the 3 years prior to Gettleman/Rivera. Again, I think all of us want this team to win again but maybe I’m a little jaded in thinking that I enjoyed 2013-2017 a helluva a lot more than 2018-2024 and I’m not a fan of smoke getting blown up my ass like we have already back.
