The NY Yankees are telling their players to be less like Cam Newton and more like Russell Wilson when it comes to speaking to the media.

Newton’s postgame press conference following Super Bowl 50 caught the eye of Jason Zillo, the Yankees’ executive director of communications, who is using the brief, dismissive session following the Panthers’ loss to the Broncos as a prime example of how not to handle yourself with the media.

The fact that Newton’s less-than-impressive postgame performance came only one year after Russell Wilson’s impeccable handling of the media after he threw a late interception in the previous Super Bowl paints a perfect picture of how to handle yourself and how not to.

“That’s something everybody should see,” Zillo said of Newton’s highly criticized interview. “It’s made more impactful when you parlay it with what the quarterback did 12 months prior in the exact same position after throwing an interception at the goal line.”

It is amazing that Cam Newton's post game press conference at the Superbowl is still a major topic of discussion. 

 

Maybe they should worry more about their players who beat women and take PEDs. 

 

As if you needed another reason to hate the Yankees.

Snobbish hypocrisy

nobody in that organization is a saint, especially their last icon, Derek Jeter, who has basically slept with half of the upper east side at this point. But then again, that aesthetic, Ford Edge peddling, corporate pool cue stuck up their ass mentality is what they're known for.

I saw that earlier...funny.  Honestly, guys need to stop caring about winning.  They need to hide all of their emotions, button up and talk boring corporate speech because that's what's been done.  Don't be you, be who the media wants you to be!

Then again, the Yankees are a pretty big merchandising business, so they don't want to offend anyone.

So are they also going to ask their players to abstain from sex with their celeb girlfriends until married?  Or drink special water they believe has mystical powers?  And dad jeans too?

I love how much of a thing Cam is.  It's only going to be sweeter as we get better and we keep on celebrating, play as our team, and continue to allow guys to be themselves.

Hey now, I don't know how anyone can hate the Game Jeter spit off the field. Have you seen his rack record? It's impressive. Couple that with the fact that he always had a limo, gift basket, and autographed swag waiting for women after spending the night with him, and I think he kept what he did as classy as he could. 

Still hate that entire organization. They are everything that is wrong with baseball. And that play where he dove into the stands is the single most overrated play in baseball history. He was too stupid to slide after catching the ball... he had plenty of time. He was just being an idiot.

      I mean, you're acting like we don't see the tippy-toe bunny hops, jump throws more than normal (with both feet dangling in the air every which a way), and off-platform but off-balance throws that arrive short or sail high. Could that be bad mechanics due to being short? Could a seeming propensity to bail the pocket towards the sidelines early as opposed to sitting in the pocket tall and strong, surveying his reads, be an attempt at trying to see an open throwing lane? I'm not saying that what you're saying isn't a contributing factor to what has been an underwhelming display of executing the QB position, but this is year three, and if the lightbulb hasn't switched on by now---if you haven't figured out that guys are faster, stronger and generally more athletic, then what's it going to take? It's hard to forget that "mental processing" was supposed to be Bryce Young's superpower. Are you telling me that he can't nail down such an easy concept as, "I can't get away with the things I did in college at the pro level," is that right? If he can't get past that, then that surely limits his ability to successfully execute all the other stuff.  Look, I'm not trying to be flippant. I acknowledge that playing pro football is more complex than a lot of fans realize, but all we can do, as fans, is observe. One of my favorite things to do is just look at the greater picture and think what part human nature is playing in the many decisions that are being made or have to be made. You're absolutely correct that fans don't know exactly what's going on, but that is by design, and in many ways it's just the nature of the beast. Some things we can't know. That being said, the professionals screw the hell up all the time. The professionals disagree all the time. These disagreements can be within the same franchise or from franchise to franchise. And sometimes these decisions are all over the place, so excuse me if I ain't exactly buying the I-know-more-than-thee sentiment and that that means that professionals always make better decisions than fans would about certain players. Some of this stuff is simply luck or a crapshoot.
