Also considering that we have Stephen Hill on the practice squad, with cotchery's contract voided we dont really have a sure-handed guy outside of Bersin and im not sure if he stays on the team next year.

Until he proves otherwise, I wouldn't want to count Stephen Hill in the sure hands category!!  His hands looked pretty bad when he was with the Jets, and I wasn't necessarily seeing what folks were excited about in training camp.

There's Norwood too.  I forget what folks have said about his hands.   DG went out of his way during the Combine to say they were pleased with his progress.

Bersin could certainly be a possession receiver.  He played well when Cotch was injured.  He makes clutch catches for 1st downs.  But he doesn't add any YAC.

Yeah there are a few sure handed guys in this draft id love us to get. Trevor Davis I think his name was. He ran a really nice 40 and had really good hands. Like DG we are always trying to get better so i really hope we pick up one WR. Maybe not draft a RB this year.

Oh I know, but that's like half of the yardage on dropped balls right there alone, and none of those were rocket balls by any means.

The ball placement on the Jacksonville drop made that one pretty difficult. All the other ones though should have been fairly easy catches.

Now that Jeffery is off the board, who would we think about?

Benjamin may get overpaid, but would like that.  Sanu/Marvin Jones maybe.

I wouldn't mind bringing in a vet like Boldin.  He still has some in the tank and can make those hard catches over the middle.  Not a burner but he's sure handed and a decent end-zone threat.

Not that the current group couldn't be better, but I have a hard time seeing DG spending a first or second round pick on a WR for three years in a row, especially with our current offensive philosophy.

Agree.  Especially not when 1) This WR class doesn't look so impressive.  and 2) the draft is DEEP at DLine & CB - positions we definitely need to strengthen.

I could see someone like Pharoh Cooper  or DE'RUNNYA WILSON, or possibly Sterling Shepard falling to the 3rd though, at least based on the early mock drafts I've played with.  That could obviously change as the combine results are factored in. (Sterling seems like he will move up... not sure about the others)

I originally disagreed with you but after re-watching it, yeah it was thrown back shoulder when he was streaking for the endzone so it was a slightly more difficult catch, however I don't think it was so difficult that he should have had as much trouble catching it as he did

This isn't as big a deal as some of you are making it.

Partly this can be attributed to our WR's, and the fact that only Cotch is known for his hands out of our "starting" 3 from 2015.

Another thing to consider is the offense we run, and the big plays that we attempt a couple times per game.  I'm guessing we are top 10 in the NFL in those "big play" attempts.

But, that's not to say that even the dropped bombs, aren't working.  They are doing a job, weather Ginn catches them or not.  You keep the defense honest when you attempt a few of those per game, and you wear out the defense by having them cover 30-40 yards downfield.

Those plays typically have 4 things that can happen, 1 is bad, 1 is OK, and 2 are great.  The defense could intercept the ball, that is the bad.  The WR doesn't catch the ball, that is OK.  The WR catches the ball, or gets a defensive holding/interference, that is great.

When you run a Coryell system, you are going to leave yards on the field...you are also going to demoralize a defense when you hit those 60 yard plays.

Might be easier and cheaper to just start lobbying the NFL to bring back Stick'em than to replace Ginn. Ginn can blow the top right off the defense and sometimes he can catch the ball and do something amazing.

And some days it's like he had hands of Teflon.

Even he drops balls. Pretty sure he dropped a gimme versus us.

Still, I think he would be a huge upgrade and make Cam's life much easier on 2nd and 3rd downs.  Dude goes hard over the middle too

    • Some of you act like one can't learn from experience over time. Just because you may not know what you're doing in 2018 doesn't mean that you don't know what you're doing in 2025. Frankly, you grow from experience, and success and excellence gives first-time applicants the hand probably 99.999% of the time.
    • It's an interesting topic of conversation as sports evolves. I think ultimately it would lead to a number of small market franchises folding though. Especially in the NBA where there are so many bad teams that have been bad for years and years in some cases already. But as it stands I think athlete pay draft or no draft aside has reached a point where we can and should realistically ask should they make that much compared to the average person. Now college athletes is a different conversation but even that reaches a breaking point. But we could go down the rabbit hole on this even further into overall entertainment and talk about actors making absurd sums too. In the end I think in sports the powers that be won't allow these changes to even be considered because it opens the door for so many other variables. But who knows how long sports like football will realistically be around after people like us pass on. We're only just now learning about things like CTE which the league and the sport in general will only be able to run away from for so long. As far as the NBA goes my understanding is viewership has been steadily going down for a number of reasons but one crucial aspect is key players missing so many games. The NBA has to figure that out regardless. Especially when considering fans who pay to see these athletes compete in person. But hey I guess let's just try to appreciate what we've got while it still exists in this form eh?
    • I can't see a world where the money goes down, but maybe your lottery odds are now your contract numbers you can offer.  Thunder? You can offer Flagg 4 years, 20 million.  Hornets? You can offer Flagg 4 years, 80 million.  Some form of a system where the money is still there, but so is the freedom of choice (on top of bad teams getting *some* competitive advantage to signing them).
