Theory of Evolution: missing link is a high and tight waist band

Well color me shocked. Day one of FA has come and gone and I have witnessed Panther fans on social media evolve from knee jerk panic stricken over reactors to cool calm and collected givers of sage advice about being patient and not over spending.  Now instead of envying the likes of the Falcons and such, Panther fans are laughing at the teams throwing out huge contracts.  Dave Gettleman has truly performed the unthinkable.

Gettlemen is doing it all without drugs and folk music too.

A "bup bup" and a few new terms like hog Mollie and Dollar Store shopping and we as Panther fans are all the sudden experts on second and third wave free agency.  I'm not sure many will fully grasp the enormity of Dave's accomplishment.

They brought him in to change the team culture. Seems to have gotten the fanbase culture changed as well. These are monumental times.

Easier to do when you run your QB like a RB to overcome drop passes every other play. We are not that good of a team. The receivers still suck balls. Like Herman Edwards say, 'If I had Cam as a coach, I would win a lot of game'.

WTF??  We made the Superbowl, and should have won had we not played our worst game on the year.  Those receivers who "suck balls" were part of the #1 Scoring offense, and they put on a show against the Cardinals in the NFC Championship game.  Yes, Cam was the unquestioned MVP and certainly made everyone better, but you don't make it to the SB and accomplish everything we did with a "not that good of a team."  Seriously, I hope this post was sarcastic.

i mean don't get me wrong people like michael procton who think that we could have stood up a mannequin at quarterback and gone 15-1 last year are just insane dipshits with an obvious axe to grind

but, and i'd like to preface this by saying that i believe this team would be far, far worse without cameron jerrell newton at the helm, the far opposite end that believes cam is a one-man team and gettleman has done an absolute disservice to him since he's been here are just as ridiculous.

Virtually every good team would be worse without their starting quarterback.  Denver might be the only exception.  And they wouldn't have made the superbowl without Manning learning that all he really needed to do was not turn the ball over.  Getting a good quarterback, utilizing him effectively is job one these days.

That being said, to be a consistent sb contender, you have to put the right pieces in place around your qb without putting your team in cap he!!, and gettleman has done just that.

When has any self respecting Panther fan envied the Falcons?

If you read a few of NFL.com reports on FA yesterday, the term "hog mollie" has been thrown around in there as well. It's possible that our great exalted DG is changing the language of the NFL as well.

    • Why not? Dude was tough as nails. Came off the field after a vicious hit and showed the coach how his ring finger was knocked out of socket halfway up. You could see the shock on Fox's face. Brad just  pulled  on the finger, grimaced, got it back in alignment and went back in for the next play and blew up an opposing linebacker or two. Dude is legendary.
    • Motown let on like he'd like to play at least another 5 years in his presser. I fell he was truthful and us fans over did his knee. The guy started like 108 starts in a row and only missed like 2 games over each of the past years.  I think as long as the team agrees with his value that Motown has, he will sign another contract extension to push the void years into the 2030s.  OLmen can play at high levels up til 40. Trent williams is doing it, Richie Incognito leftd and came back to play until he hit 38. Lane Johnson is still playing at a top level while 38. You member Greg Van Roten, he's somehow still playing at 36 and he started here after being a substitute teacher years before. If you are able to get over the 32 year bump, its possible to reach 38 with luck. Colleges do a poor job of preparing new OLmen, many times that vet is better.   Rams were begging Andrew Whitworth to come back while he was 39, if you got the genes, luck and still willing to put in the hard work....it is possible to play until 38 as a OLmen*starting level*
    • Shaq was a fantastic LB, he just happened to have been standing in the shadow of a Panthers great and a Hall of Famer. He was team-lead starter quality for all 32 teams of the NFL. Don't throw shade on him, he was never just a guy.
