Rule changes being discussed

Going into the NFL owners meetings, the ejection rule is probably the biggest news of the moment.  As stated now, any player now called for two unsportsmanlike conduct penalties will now automatically be ejected.  Per Michael David Smith, this can include such things as abusive language or taunting (watch out, Josh Norman).

Other rule changes being discussed per PFT:

- Moving touchbacks from the 20 to the 25 (ugh)

- Allowing coaches to challenge everything (guess who's pushing that one)

- outlawing the chop block (good chance)

- placing extra point tries at the 15 yard line (extending last year's change)

And here's a new one: A rule that would not allow a QB to throw a pass after he's fallen down, even if he hasn't been touched. This is in response to a stunt Peyton Manning pulled in this year's playoffs.

Biggest question for me: Where do they draw the line between trash talking and "abusive language".  That's likely to be important to big talkers like Norman and Finnegan (if he's back).

I have to agree here. I saw a buch of late chuck aways last year that damn sure looked like grounding to me but didnt get called on techniallity. They were clearly making no attempt to actually complete a pass. The Peyton pass just made me laugh, and i dont mean that sarcastically.

Allowing coaches to challenge everything? Does that mean anything is reviewable or there are no limits on challenges? If coaches challenged everything games would last 5 hours

They should make you not lose a challenge if you win it. It's ridiculous to me you only get 2 challenges so if they screw up 3 times you're out of luck and lose the game.

Coaches should begin each half with unlimited challenges and get to keep challenging until they lose one.  Don't know why anyone would have a problem with that.

Moving the touchback is clearly designed to further discourage a return so that the league can one day eliminate it. A matter of when, not if.

My take on replay is simple. All calls are reviewable but in exchange, no automatic reviews on anything anymore. Two challenges per half but you keep any that are successful. This would be in conjunction with cleaning up the rulebook while making the refs full time employees that receive comprehensive training.

As for the unsportsmanlike versus trash talking, I'm sure the determining factors will be clear as what constitutes a catch.

The challenge debate wouldn't be an issue if the NFL would just admit their officials miss too many calls live and adopt the College replay system. All plays should be reviewed by the booth and if they need to take a closer look, buzz down. Coaches still get two challenges in case they see something replay booth doesn't.

I like most of these but the most important is defining a frkkin catch. Why can't they do that. It shouldn'tbe subjective. If you go down with the ball  and hang  on to it it's a catch.

Not a fan of the new ejection rule. The officials are bad enough as is. Why should we give them MORE of an opportunity to impact the game?
