Strong Safety

Lots of people have thrown around the idea of drafting a safety in the early rounds to compete or even take over the starting SS spot.  Im of the opinion the answer is on the roster in tre boston.  

He seems to make plays and do well behind the front seven (not that thats difficult) good locker room guy and knows the defence and really helps with team speed on that side of the ball.  Im not sure a safety from the draft or the kid from washington is an upgrade this year. 

What say you? Tre for SS 2016 or not.

If not educate me as to why.

Tre Boston is our free safety, hence why we need a strong safety.

At this point in their careers, he is better than Harper; therefore, an upgrade.  Also, Tre really seemed to be around the ball last year for a lot of crucial turnovers.  From the team at the end of the year, we should be looking at an upgrade at nickel, cb2, Safety, and RDE (calling Allen the starter last year), and hopefully we see the CJ that we saw at the very tail end. Shaq should improve. That is pretty ridiculous considering our defense was very very good.

I get that he is penciled as a free safety but he played plenty of snaps to give roman rest and did so pretty well.

Tre Boston is more of a Free Safety.

Think of Cam Chancelor, Donte Whitner or Troy Polamalu when you think of SS. Someone that can run and cover a bit but can also play linebacker and come crashing down to make the big hits too..

Nickel was addressed when Boykin was brought in. CB2 is going to be fine because Bene will be back, and be moved outside where he belongs. Safety could possibly use an upgrade, but Boston should be serviceable. I think it should be addressed in the draft. RDE will most assuredly be addressed at some point in the draft. With the young guys we have in Delaire, Addison and Miley, we should be fine there without bringing in an overpriced vet.

I agree.

I was saying that we, as fans, should expect to see improvement in the 2016 squad over the 2015 squad because our team will be improved at all of those positions.. Safety included.

 RDE is Ealy, no? I expect us to draft a DE but I've got Ealy and Johnson (on a one year deal) as starters which is better than Allen and injured Johnson (sittin fat and raking in dough)  from last year.

I think we'll be fine with Boston as a starting safety. With him and Coleman back there, I think there's going to be less emphasis on who's the "strong" and who's the "free" safety and their roles will blur and rotate based on the play. It'll be a different look for the defense, but we should have the utmost faith in Rivera, McDermott, and Wilks to make it work. 

I do think we're going to find a reliable third safety in the draft, though. That cat we picked up in free agency looks like a ST player to me and we need to go ahead and prepare ourselves for potentially losing Coleman in free agency since he's not a core player. Finding a more traditional box safety would let us move Boston to free safety after Coleman leaves and doing it now lets a prospect begin to grow and learn in our system.

Coleman is the FS, no? Harper was the SS.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Leave Coleman at FS, bring in competition at SS, let Boston rotate in to keep the guys fresh. (Unless he makes a significant jump, he will be no more than a key backup again)

If we're sticking with Boston I think he'll be the FS and Coleman the SS.
