Do you have an enclosed backyard? If so, is it one where a big dog can stay when you're not home? I know you mentioned you have a dog so unsure if this applies here.

Homemade spear gun using an arrow or crossbow bolt, rubber tube, piece of rubber for the arrow tip and pvc pipe . Would cost you about 4 bucks to make and you could always say you keep it in the house for spear fishing.

Half serious, half joke. I have made quite a few different homemade weapons for fun. I combined a slingshot and blow gun and created something similar to what I said above that fires crossbow bolts. If you put a decent size rubber tip on it, it would be like a short range bean bag gun.

Are there rules against just having a bean bag gun? There are all sorts of less than lethal guns out there that shoot big pellets or disks or bean bags or rubber buck shot etc etc

OP said not a firearm. This is my cheap alternative version made for a couple of bucks. I've been hit with a beanbag round and those fuggers hurt.
