I mean,  if Gettleman picks D Henry there is going to be a lot of folks having to swallow their pride and realize they don't know jack.

People act like the man can do no wrong. Even the greatest GMs make quite a few mistakes.

I know very little about Henry, but I do know that I'm not a fan of taking RBs in the 1st anymore, unless they've got Zeke Elliott talent. It sucks that guys like Trent Richardson and Jahvid Best had to ruin that for us, but first round RBs simply seem too much like a crapshoot nowadays, especially with their injury proneness and short shelf lives.

Edit: I should say that I'm not implying we shouldn't take Henry if he's there, because again, I know very little on the subject lol. But that doesn't mean I won't go with my first reaction of annoyance with the pick, the same way I did with both guys like Luke Kuechly and Jimmy Clausen. You never know.

Same thing for those that keep spewing that he's going to be the pick, if we pass on him.

Personally, I'm not a huge D. Henry fan.  I'm truly worried about the amount of abuse he's took in high school and last season.  I also worry about his upright running style leading to injuries.  It's one thing for a guy like Dickerson to run upright, because he was so adept at lowing his shoulder when he made contact and rarely took heavy shots when in upright mode.  But I don't see henry doing that.  I just see a guy going pounding it into the defense.  I also don't see great acceleration to hit the hole, which would relegate him to Tolbert-level effectiveness.

With that said, if he's the pick, I'll trust that the braintrust made the right decision because they've earned it.  One thing I won't hold against him is the quality of Alabama's Oline.  He succeeded with what he had to work with.  You can't blame him for something that was out of his control.  But ultimately, I think when push comes to shove, someone at another position they really like will be there, and we'll pass on Henry.

Some of us aren't basing our prediction on pure guess and speculation.

My point is that none of us truly knows what the team will do in any given situation.  I respect the position you are in and understand that you hear things that most of us don't have access to.  And that is very much appreciated.

However, while you may have caught wind that the team really likes Henry, I seriously doubt you're in the inner circle to the point where you're given privileged information by those truly in the know to share on your popular Panther website.  My guess is it's probably hearsay from one or more in the building you've built relationships with.  So, I'm sure there is some legitimacy to it, but I'd also say your information is probably also very much incomplete.

With that said, I'll try to prepare myself just in case, even though I still have my doubts about Henry.  Now watch someone take him ahead of us, making this while discussion moot.

don't be surprised if Gman go ahead and picks Sterling Shepard at 30 if this scenario plays out.  The DL is deep this year but the WR pool isn't.  This could be a Colts Phillip Dorsett type of move this year with them taking him in the 1st when he was projected 2nd-3rd rounder.  People will question it just like last year with the Colts and people will question it just like Shaq but we as Huddlers know that we trust in the Gman and Sterling is a BOSS of a WR.  I don't believe he last until end of 2nd so I could definitely see Gman taking him in 1st at 30 or moving up in mid 2nd to get him.

I'd be pretty concerned if someone in the organization was definitively leaking who our draft pick will be in a likely scenario almost 3 weeks out from the draft. I can't imagine Gettleman would be very pleased either.

Ok? Not what I'm getting at but whatevs.

Running gag from prior drafts.

Every time someone would bring up a prospect, someone else would chime in "he'll be gone when we pick". Hence, we came to the conclusion that no one at all would be available when our pick came up.

Obviously, some were right but I'd say some were doing it just to be a--holes.

I hate quoting myself, but after looking at the clip Shaka posted in the other Henry thread, I am amending my evaluation of Henry. I saw a couple of Alabama games this year, but didn't focus on Henry to the degree I am now that he is a potential pick of ours.  So, after looking at him with fresh eyes I've revised my thinking. (to save time, I'm just copying what I posted there)

First, he has a better burst to the hole than I was thinking.  When he needed to hit it quick, he did so.  But what I noticed was that he was patient and waited to see where the hole was going to open up.  So, apparently, I was mistaking patience with slow acceleration.  He also showed good vision.  I don't think I saw one run where he didn't take the correct hole.  Florida's DL is nothing to sneeze at, so he didn't always get huge chunks of yards, but I think he almost always got as much as he could have.  I didn't get a sense that he left very many yards on the field and always pushed the line forward.  I also noted that he is very good at getting skinny (as the pundits like to say) in a hole.  Basically, he is a beast that will wear down a defense, then takes advantage later in the game.

However, my main concern still remains.  I worry about how much wear and tear he has taken between high school and last season.  So, if we do take him, I could see him being a 1 contract player.  We get our 5 years as a 1st round pick out of him, then let someone else overpay him when he's up for his second contract.
