Ron Rivera, like you, fell asleep during Rams-49ers

NFL coaches, they're just like us.

Panthers coach Ron Rivera acknowledged he was unable to stay awake for the duration of the Rams-49ers snoozer on Monday night, this despite the Niners being the next team up on Carolina's schedule.

"Unfortunately, I stayed up and watched. And the reason why I say unfortunately is I fell asleep somewhere in the beginning of the fourth quarter," Rivera said during Wednesday's press conference. "But I got to see three quarters of it."

Can you blame the guy? It was around 1 a.m. in Charlotte by the time the fourth quarter started. Compounding matters, the Rams and 49ers had played a third quarter that will go down as one of the least inspiring periods of football in recent memory. The two teams combined for seven punts, two first downs, one interception and zero points in the 15 minutes of game time.

Rivera is also 54 years old. Any dad over the age of 40 who's sitting in front of a TV past midnight is asleep. That's just science.

The Rams fielded the most offensive offense I've ever seen.

It was (at least what I saw because like Ron I fell asleep sometime after halftime) worse than our 2010 offense.

The only time I've ever watched a game with offense that putrid is a high school game.

It is an indictment on the whole organization that they traded up to get Goff at #1 and then didn't have him ready to play. Anyone, including Pickles from day 1, would have looked better than Case Keenum.

    • it's pretty simple IMO.  The Tepper Panthers are the most unsuccessful professional sports in all of sports.  The problem isn't the posters here have changed.  The product dictates the atmosphere more than anything.  In reality, the daily convos about THE worst team in all of pro sports on a fanatics site....is going to feature harsh and critical convo.  Only one entity can actually change that.  It's the Carolina Panthers football team.
    • Yes message boards will always include that sort of stuff… However, this place has been a cess pool since the team took Bryce Young over CJ Stroud. It becomes a problem when it is accepted and promoted, which it has been here (even by at least one mod). Many posters sole purpose on this board is to try to dunk on others for having different opinions. We just had one write a novella on how talking about Bryce Young’s game winning drives “needs to stop”…after a win. They don’t want real conversation. It “needs to stop”. There are many posters here who literally only show up after losses to dead thread and try to dunk on others about the QB (MRenshaw is an easy example). I really don’t see much of that happening the other way around. There’s too many people that would rather the team be bad so they can feel justified for constant doom and gloom and negative opinions. It’s been pointed out by many over the past couple years. This just isn’t a place to have football discussions anymore because of the constant hyperbole. If you don’t subscribe to “Bryce Young is the worst QB ever who can’t throw the ball further than 5 yards and is the reason why we lose any game we lose and doesn’t help in any game we win”, then you are labeled a Bryce Young Stan.
    • if you believe he is watching every NFL game.....every week.....go right ahead.  I get it, he said something you like.  But that's like believing the talking heads on the ESPN shows are watching all the games.  You think Stephen A is watching the Panthers every Sunday too?  If Stephen A needs to go on First Take he certainly can pretend like he has watched every snap any player on the roster has taken lol.   No one is that isn't a Panther fan has been watching the 9-25 career go down every Sunday.  Or even a lot of Sunday's.  You know who knows more about Bryce Young than Long? The collective huddle.  What they are reviewing is stat sheets, highlights and in summaries.  It's an old formula lol.
