Gman: ...we're going to attack the issue [of LT]

FWIW, G-man already said that it's a weak draft class. I kinda think that once he weighs FA vs. the draft, FA is going to win. That being said, I'm not ruling out anything. When G-man was talking, he was talking in terms of the Oher situation and this season, not waiting for a day two or three project out of a weak class to develop.

BTW, Jared Veldheer did leave Oakland in FA, so sometimes LTs do become available.

Echoing other thoughts, Matt Kalil or a (longshot) bandaid like Whitworth are probably the only realistic options.

The quick fix is of course trade for a legit LT...but it of course would be pricey, both in cap room and draft picks.

Sign Kalil to hopefully mesh with his brother (hopefully he's fine playing in his shadow), draft a mid-round guy to groom, and then grab some UDFA and hope one sticks.

Oher, Remmers, Kalil, Draft Pick, and projects is probably our only option without going wild.

Riley is decent, but look at the market, he will be overpaid. If it's reasonable I'd like him. I'd just prefer Kalil at cut rate.

The #1 reason I am high on him is because he stays healthy... there should be no higher priority at LT for us... maybe no higher priority on the team.

He is a young, nfl proven LT... proven to be average to above average... but would anyone argue he is a downgrade from Oher. If it takes 13M/yr to get him... worth it.

You realize he played RT all this year right?

The Lions drafted a real LT in the 1st last season in Decker.

Speaking of staying healthy, Rieff missed their 2 most important games this season with a hip injury. He missed the last game against GB and their playoff game.

A real LT lol. You do realize sometimes teams want 2 good tackles right? Decker was just best suited on the left side and since you can only have 1 LT playing on the field, Riley was moved to RT.

    • I do think the rating is fair given how this unit hasn’t proven it with production. I understand you have to rank off production, not potential. However, our unit is also in a position to make this rating look foolish a year from now. We have 4 guys in the WR/TE room who all could legitimately take the next step this year, and catapult our rank. A guy under a lot of people’s radar after we took Tet, Jalen Coker. Mark my words, he will become the star of this room, and be the heir to Thielen.
    • Exactly. You’d think 2-7 wins a year (in a 17 game season no less) since 2017 is going to keep us bottom tier. Every year we say the same poo like we haven’t been a bad team the past 7 years. Until we prove we aren’t a bottom dweller, that’s where we’ll stay ranked. God forbid we have OL injuries like 2016.
    • What I love and hate about this team is it’s more filled with potential breakout players than ever before. JT, XL, Coker, Smith-Wade, Ikem, Trevin… and even Bryce are all guys I could legitimately see taking the next step. But the problem with having so many of those guys is that team success somewhat relies on them taking that step, and some are bound not to. That being said, I’m cautiously optimistic given our softer schedule, the way the offense clicked late last year, and the direction we finally have at GM, coach, and QB. Could see us as a sneaky playoff team.
