The Panthers plan to promote Curtis Fuller to secondary coach, a league source confirmed. He will replace Steve Wilks, who was promoted to defensive coordinator when Sean McDermott became the head coach at Buffalo. The Charlotte Observer first reported the Fuller promotion. Fuller joined coach Ron Rivera's staff as an administrative assistant in 2013 and became a defensive back assistant in 2014. The Panthers also are close to naming a replacement for wide receivers coach Ricky Proehl. That person could come from the college ranks.

Is Rivera just trying to ensure there are no viable options for interim Head Coach, so he won't be fired in October, then he can pick up some meaningless wins to save his job again in December?

Look, happy with Wilkes is getting his shot.  Keeping Shula and Dorsey is hard to phathom after seeing the product on the field this year.  Fuller may work out as defensive backs coach but it's a risky move considering the youth in the secondary.  Now a wide receiver coach without any NFL experience, directly from the college ranks with a struggling WR corps? Hope he remembers to tell them it's two feet in bounds in the pros.  Sincerely hope my concern is unwarranted but feels like amateur hour over at BofA.

Wilks is the potential interim....he's already served that duty and his name even surfaced as a hc candidate this year. He's been assistant hc for several years.

They certainly aren't going to oromote a secondary or wide receiver coach to hc no matter who they are when you have an assistant hc already.

    • Not sure how much he was a long term piece of this team.   Sucks to not have him as part of the rotation.   Looks like it's Lee Hunter time.
    • This post was an error. Oops and sorry for the errors in the previous one. Too slow to edit.   We’ll see what they do.
    • I am not sure he will put the over the games but we’ll probably have them.   Two things I am thinking.  We have 4 preseason games.  All the coaches have enough service time to know the standards that are in place for decades. If I recall it was play your starters just a series to start woth and build it up until week theee where play a lot and you have week four to set hour roster. Evaluate before cuts.   Bevell will certainly have the whole thing down pat.   I’d they don’t do the fries and frie air will worry too. Because it is set up to do that.     I have said since they went t three preseason people have to figure a new way are still feeling it out and trying things.  We don’t have to this year.
