Leonard Fournette Vs Dalvin Cook

Ivan The Awesome

Recommended Posts

These are the two clear cut 'elite' running backs in this draft. at #8, if both are there, who would the pick be? (Given that they are the BPAs)

Here's some good scouting reports by a guy I've been following for years now. He knows his stuff. He's been right about several things in past drafts and past players. So I take his opinion seriously.

Enjoy.

6'1" 230 lbs

LSU

SIZE: 10.0
- Plenty of muscle to absorb punishment
- 6'1" frame does create some issues with running too upright up the middle

- Really good top end speed for his size.
- Impressive going from cutting to top speed

BREAK/AVOID TACKLE: 10.0
- Consistently falling forward fighting for extra yards

- Not much of an issue holding on to the ball

RECEIVING SKILLS: 9.0
- Fairly reliable hands as a receiver
- Primarily basic route tree of flat and out patterns

PASS PROTECTION: 7.5
- Shows good feel for chip blocking
- Willing to stand in and square up on blitzer/rusher
- Sometimes looks lost as a pass protector
- Can get caught flat footed waiting instead of attacking in protection

DURABILITY: 8.0
- Missed several games in 2016 due to injury
- Running style could lead to nagging injuries
- Potential concerns about chronic ankle problem
- A lot of work in a short timeframe

INTANGIBLES: 9.5
- Poor performances vs. Alabama
- Elected to skip team's bowl game
- Less effective in 2016
- Put up monster numbers with bad QB play
- Play hard type of guy, gives consistent effort

Fournette fits your offense best. Stewart's name shouldn't even come up in discussing a RB at #8. He's injury prone, declining in effectiveness and knocking on the door of 30. Given our desire to establish a dominant power running game, I'd have zero issue taking Fournette at #8.

I thought Stewart was injury-prone as well, and called him such. Turns out he's only injured and average amount of times as far as running backs go. We should draft fournette but also keep Stewart.

An elite RB or combination thereof will extend Cams career. Cam can throw 25 or so times a game. That's the formula.

I continue to hear the pundits say that Cam takes a pounding running the ball. The most vicious shots I've seen Cam take were in the pocket aside from the "stroll" into the end zone. Cam usually delivers the pain as a runner or slides.

The more he can hand it off to capable talented scorers the better. I've seen Cook on a couple big boards as a top ten player so either will help us tremendously on the field and is worth the #8.

By the way, watching the Falcons right now is really pissing me off Jerry.

    • You have gave the board some recent gold via posting. Heres my poor attempt at the truthful play-by-play of the time during post- I pulled out the old laptop to do my shitposting and check on websites. Open the huddle and see this new thread. Open thread and read CRAs post, {inner thinking, oooOOooo this is my lane and I got this}. Make sure not to scroll even to the 2nd post. 23% of current neurons still firing start up and two names appear- Captain and Josh....... about another 43 seconds past "O GOD" it's July 4th weekend and I got medicine to pick up. (If the laptop didn't give away my aging, the meds should...) I need to split, think long panther careers and the hint-  Ryan Kalil was a late 2nd and Pro bowls(even all-pros too) he's got to be OLman and Mikie Minter is among the all-time Panthers career leaders. Drop my post. Scramble to get keys, wallet, and phone. Check my phone- its 17% battery.....fug I now have to raw dog the pickup line and put the phone on charge.... Flip flops, sweat ringed filled hat, and shades acquired. Get in my pos rav4 and think about not running the A/C. Pull out the drive way and reach the 1st stop light, A/C is wide open. I check my shirt to see if there's any new stains on my house shirt, bush off the Bojangles salt that I see.... Neurons re-fire and focus on the comments CRA made that no one would get this....... Dang IT, that means it isn't Ryan Kalil or Mike Minter! CVS is close, but I know its impossible I get back withing 10 minutes to change my post and my phone is on the charger. {Think you monkey, at one point you were a draft nerd}. Reach the CVS line, by some grace its not 5 cars deep during 5 o'clock traffic hell. Im second in line after the car in front of me both turn in, they have to go back and forth to line up while Im a pro for that geometry. Neurons finally reach peak performance as Ive re-thought draft classes. Think obscure and unknown 7th rounders with long careers. Some Sunday/Monday night member berry fell out of my Melon, Will montgomery during the players intros for washington. I thought he out of the league and was shocked to see him still playing around the 2015 years. I do a goggle background check and that refreshed memory. Pick up the meds and enjoy the sweet smelling cool CVS air. Driving back and check in on one of the local bums at the big stop light, wow he's got a new fancy rug. Think about all the old food I got and need to start giving it away and rethink it. Reach home and post a follow up and I know Minter is wrong too, I check the draft history and see Robert Mcclain. Too late, but that would have been my guess....open CRAs link and get "upset" at the DBs name.
    • THANKS my guy! Keeping up with this threads theme, if I view a thread and there's only 20 posts and some time passes. If I see there's one new post and read the name; @Dave Gettleman's Shortsis among the chosen few that I will reopen that thread just to see what you posted.    Thanks again, plus not just a scout, thats scotty mccloughans son?!?!? If not for the deep claws of booze, scotty is among the best talent finders this league has recently had. Last I heard he ran a consulting business. Caden could be one of those who's on a early path to being a GM in the future. I was a big fan of his dad, dam shame about booze demon ruining his career.
