How Bad is Luke Joeckel?

Free Agent OT

Former #2 Overall Pick

25 years old

6'6"  306 pounds

Could a coach like Matzko turn him around a la Michael Oher?  Is Joeckel another OT bust reminiscent of Matt Kalil in Minnesota and not worth the time?

I know we need to fill the void at OT and had no idea that Joeckel is a FA.  I know he's battled season ending injuries in JAX and moved around from right tackle... to left tackle...and inside to guard. Considering how awful that franchise's personnel has been handled the past few years, maybe our situation is more fruitful and could see a turnaround here in Carolina.... if he stays healthy.

Could be a great 'buy low' option in free agency.

He was the only player that at the time I would have taken over Star in that draft.  Jax sucks and they had him move positions and more/less gave up on him because Watt abused him.  Great logic there.

I like him better than Matt Kalil, pure and simple.  Moved positions, less injuries, with a worse franchise, and one less year to prove himself.

At this point Gettlemen has to sign guys like Joeckel. Guys that are super young, and know they have a ton of potential if someone can get it out of them. Thats about the only thing we can do in a weak tackle draft class. There are a few guys like Joeckel in free agency. Bring a handful of them in

    • I don't really care as much about athleticism and arm strength.  While Murray might be better in that regard, I think Bryce has enough of both to do well in the NFL. The main reason this trade reference is silly is the money and the fact that Murray has been around a long while and hasn't proven that he can perform consistently when the game is on the line.  Bryce has shown that he can play well in the clutch (in the few opportunities he has had).
    • If Bryce can continue the level of play he showed after the benching, then there's a good shot we at least compete to win the division. Tampa is a solid team but even last year in our week division they went 10-7 and will be on their 4th OC in as many years. The Saints are a mess and are in a mist of a half rebuild half still trying to compete mode and will probably be starting a rookie QB. The Falcons are a wild card as they have a really good offense but are we really crowning Michael Penix as a franchise QB after just 3 games?  The only thing I want out of this season is for Bryce to come out and without a shadow of a doubt prove he's our franchise QB. If that happens then most of the fanbase would be happy and I believe we'd be in a good place record wise at the end of the season. Maybe falling just short of winning the division with a chance to sneak in as a wild card team.
