Exactly. His 2016 deal was for the vet minimum and counted $475k against the cap. He isn't signing for Addison money or anything we can't release. He is, however, important enough to us to have on the roster when we have 0 clue as to any DEs we might get in the draft or FA.

I love the Huddle reaction to signings like these. A guy who may not make the roster and all due respect to the man, but I hope he doesn't because that means a rookie or two stepped up in camp or fell to us in the draft.

There are going to be lots of signings like this and maybe CJ has told DG that he does plan to shop himself to try and get a last deal for some more $$$. Who knows.

Right. Same reaction when we re-signed Ben Jacobs to a 2-year deal.

The Panthers have signed defensive end Wes Horton to a two-year deal 24 hours after re-signing end Mario Addison to a three-year deal. Horton has been a solid run stopper that has earned him 27 starts over the last four seasons. Fills another need. Addison is more of a pass rusher. Sets up position by committee.

    • I’m really having a hard time understanding how this actually went down. -Renfrow expected to make roster as 2nd/3rd string. -Panthers cut Renfrow; Keep Brycen Tremayne, and add UDFA receiver (Dalevon Campbell) to active roster.  -Canales/Morgan say it’s totally up to Hunter whether he wants to come back or not, they would love to have him.    -Renfrow not signed to PS -Panthers trade Adam Thielen -Hunter Renfrow signed to active roster with a raise after an injury to Coker nobody heard about and is likely to start.    Our WR room is now: -Xavier Legette (2024 1st round pick) -Tet McMillan (2025 1st round pick) -Hunter Renfrow (1 year out of the league) -David Moore (Canales’ friend? A guy way past his prime) -Jimmy Horn (Likely a Shi Smith reprint, but has potential 2025 6th round pick, weighs 174 lbs) -Brycen Tremayne (2023 UDFA who was on Washington’s PS for 2 years and caught 1 pass for -2 yards and averaged 300 yards per year at Stanford) -Dalevon Campbell (2025 UDFA had a good preseason but had 1463 yards and 3 TDs over 5 college seasons at 3 different schools). What the hell is going on?
    • Not uncommon for week 1 games. Especially against good defenses. It’s why I prefer my team play these small schools week 1 if they are going to play them. Gives the offense time to get calibrated.
