He's not going to have the impact you are thinking. He will be lucky to put up half of what Cooks did for NO.

Old age and treachery will overcome youth and skill

IMO that would be fine with them to get half of Cooks production.  600 yards 4-5 TDs, maybe more if he gets lucky and catches more than he drops.  They are probably banking on his leadership for a young WR corp more than anything though

I havent read all the replies.  Is someone saying he would have a Brandin Cooks impact? lol

if we foresaw this we really should've given byrd starting time late in the season to see what he's got in the tank.

He got some time against Tampa. Made a real nice grab and looked the role.

I expect that to be built upon.

It's almost like losing Norman - on a lower scale.

We all say how he's "expendable" and how a part of our team (Defensive Front - Norman; Cam Newton - Ted Ginn) made them look amazing, but truth be told speedsters like Ginn with his routes don't grow on trees.

We definitely need to look for insurance in case Byrd doesn't pan out.

Cruz is going to be the Ginn replacement...Better hands, but slower obviously

Not really.

Ginn caught 56.8% of the passes he was targeted with a 5.3% drop rate.

Cruz caught 54.2% of the passes he was targeted with a 4.2 drop rate.

Cruz dropped 2 fewer passes last season than Ginn.

Ginn 32 years old, Cruz 30 years old.

Cruz 1 TD in 2014, 1 in 2016.

Yeah, Cruz is a sure-fire replacement for Ginn...... gtfo.

Ginn was an enigma.  Caught absolute blistering fastballs from Newton in traffic or straddling the sidelines, but blew catching wide open bombs, he will be missed to a point but Im not devastated he's gone either.

No nobody has implied that but there are a lot of ppl who seem very upset that we lost our speed receiver to a division rival. My point is their offense got a lot worse with that move. We have yet to see if we have gotten worse or better at that position. I guess the fear of the unknown is getting to people.

And from what I read, Ginn isn't the best leader for young WRs. He won't really rein in anybody was what Voth implied.

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
