This year is what I said.  The future played no part in my comment but ok how about this, we bandaid a position or two now in hopes that we can find longer term solutions as we move forward.

 

Never has there been not will there ever be a team with every hole filled with long term team friendly deals.  This team is looking solid and poised for a big season.

So, trade down to #12 presumably picking up an extra 3rd in the process then presumably packaging the two 2nds to jump back into the 1st?

Fine by me ifAdams and Fournette are both gone and no one surprising slips. But, that's an awful lot of trading. It'd be tough to swing.

Nope. The #12 pick in the 1st plus the #12 pick in the 3rd almost perfectly match the #8 pick on the draft value chart. Might be able to pick up an extra late rounder or something in addition but likely not a 2nd.

As a general point, I think fans tend to have expectations too high when it comes to draft picks. The best GM's in the league only hit on about 57% of their picks, that's just over half, the worst GM's about 46%. That's only an 11% difference. The big thing is making sure your missing don't come in the 1st, so far for DG they havent.

The question is 2 elite players or an elite player and 2 other solid players. If you trade up the 2 2nds for a first and can get someone who you have top 15 value on like maybe Howard or Corey Davis or one of the DEs if they slip or something like that, then it could be worth it. Also those two players we'd have on cheap rookie deals for 5 years. But if the difference between a player late in the first we could trade up for and a player at 40 isn't that big then stay where we're at. 

All depends on how the draft falls.
