New Phone - why shouldn't I?

So here's where I am, I just destroyed my phone today.  Tried to put in my pocket, missed, and it landed face down on the side walk...  I've attached my poor, poor screen!  Laugh at my pain!

So I'm looking primarily at the LG G6.  Lots of good reviews, good camera, good enough batter, great screen.  Over all, a lot of generally positive things.

Why not?

Same for the Samsung S8?  Why not?

Or even one of the new Moto Z phones.

Got to pick it up tomorrow.  Lightning round?

I need a new one simply because my Note 5 is showing it's age...   seriously considering the S8+ but want to look at it first.

I use my phone a lot for business stuff so I'm not going to buy one online without having held it in my hands.

If you get one lmk, I'd like an opinion of it.

Thanks for the input folks.  I ended up picking up the LG G6.  It felt great in hand (still does) and the price was easier to swallow than the S8.

I'm going to give it a few more days to finish doing all it's updates and whatnot to all of my apps.  The Google Services is killing my battery the past 18 or so hours!  Make me think I have an app or setting going rogue on me.

I liked the S8 in hand, but the curved screen got me.  It's going to make the cases that much bigger and more problematic.  I'm a phone pocket guy (for better or for shatter screen).  I hate wearing them on my belt.  I move far too much and run into things and kids all the time (not to mention my spare tire...) for belt phone.

Thus far, I'm digging the G6.  Camera takes great photos, though I haven't tried any with my son in full action.  It's fast and all the things you expect from a flagship phone.

My case will be here today, getting the Spigen Tough Armor.  The phone is MIL spec rate and the case as well (26 times from a 4' drop).  So that should help with my screen destruction issues.

You had the Moto x pure? I've had one now for almost a year and love it. Great specs and good camera. Bought one after my HTC m8 was turning in a POS. The Moto x pure is a much better phone. Expandable storage, cheaper, faster and more reliable.

I've been thinking about upgrading soon. I was looking at the LG G6 as well. But I'd prefer the Huawei mate 9 pro or p10. So expensive though.

Smartphones are tough though because they become obselete so fast. At the end of the day I just want one with a good camera, Internet, waterproof and doesn't break.

I really did enjoy my Moto X Pure.  Very solid phone.  Most of my problems were self inflicted.

I get the price issues, that's why I bought the Moto X, was a great value at the time.  And it just kicked but until I destroyed the screen.  I'll get that fixed when I can afford it!

I hear ya about how they get old fast, but the flip side is that because the changes become smaller and smaller (like the 808 => 820 was a pretty big change, and the 820 => 835 is still a big change, but no where near as drastic and life changing).  So hardware will tend to last longer.

I'm still loving the G6.  Yesterday, I got 17+ hours of up time, 4.5 Hours of Screen On Time, and about 20% off my batter was in system idle (working in a school is a pain for connectivity, jumping between 3g and 4g and wifi constantly).  I did hit the charger at 7%, but again, I'm pretty impressed!  So long as it stays in shape, I should be able to keep it for at least 2 years!

    • Ehh, new front office has 2 drafts under their belt -- Salaun draft class was really a horrible class in general, but Salaun has started to show some of his potential and KJ Simpson not bad for a 2nd round pick. This past draft clearly looks like it was knocked out of the fuging park obviously with Kon but also Sion and Kalk already contributing in somewhat big roles for late round picks. And McNeeley has shown potential and lit it up in summer league, seems to be doing well in the G league for a young guy too.      As for this season I think a very realistic goal and outcome of the regular season is sneaking up into a 7 or 8 seed and then winning 1 of 2 play-in games to make the real playoffs. Probably get cooked in round 1 but that playoff experience and establishing that expectation of winning is critical to the development of our young core.
    • Sound write-up MHS, as always.  Agree that the smart move that forward thinking franchises make would be drafting a tackle early, if not for sure in R1, depending on who's there. Based on early predictions we're choosing between Fano and Proctor. No brainer here...Fano all day. Proctor does not move the needle for me. In my mind, Icky has less future here than Brooks does. I love Icky, but he has been average as a top-10 pick, one good year where you saw the potential...and that was this year. He's built like a RT and his strengths are there, but he's always played left. I also feel like part of what has held him back from being elite, was his work ethic. He was known for it coming out, but feel like he fell right at home in Carolina and maybe didn't push himself as hard as he needed to. Throw in a major crucial injury that will take time to recover and a historical low return rate to current form, and the outlook is not great. Fano can play both sides and we need to also plan for Moton's departure. Either way, delaying drafting a tackle early this year will hurt us down the line. Our current OL is overpriced and needs to start adding draftees to start balancing out the inevitable changes coming in the next 2-3 years.  As others have said, maybe Icky can replace Hunt or Lewis in a couple years when he's fully recovered....IDK. Also not a guarantee, but then you have to figure out his contract and it becomes even more clouded.
    • It's past time to just eliminate it in terms of an event. Just do the voting, name the roster, and move on. When you get down to 6th and 7th alternates it's just absurd. It doesn't mean anything.
