I think I'd be cool with these 3 dudes being our first 3 selections:

Thoughts?

Replace Taco Charlton with McCaffrey or OJ Howard.

Guys we are moving back into the 1st after selecting  a stud most likely  Fournette or OJ Howard

Target: for the move up McCaffrey or OJ Howard

First can't replace the #40 pick with OJ Howard or McCaffrey because both are now being projected to not make it out of the 1st.  So wont work.  OJ has made himself a top 15 pick.  McCaffrey is gaining momentum to be a 1st round pick.

aint happening.

However, I do like the Zay Jones at the end of the 2nd.  my 2nd favorite receiver in this draft.

Until sports writers understand the number of people Stewart has to make miss before he even gets to the line of scrimmage, there is no hope of viewing anything objectively. If we were to draft Fournette at 8 and he averages 3.5 YPC, talking heads will say he wasn't as good as projected. The reality is far more complicated, especially considering Stew is one of the most elusive big backs in the league.

In a nutshell: I don't trust their analysis when they only use YPC to judge Stewart and justify us picking up a running back. The line was atrocious at times last season. Put Stew behind what Shanahan was running last season in Atlanta and he would easily be considered one of the best backs in the league.

We need with our top three picks some combination of RB, WR (burner), and a real left tackle prospect. Then a blocking tight end to run the Shula two step. that takes us through round 3 (4 picks). Although we could get Michael Roberts in round 5 or 6 to fill that need perfectly.

Guard and DT have both guys going up next year for contracts. We can't (Re: won't) pay all four what they want. so one Guard and one DT type. we also need a backup guy at MLB (so a fifth or sixth round type). (Rounds 4-6)

Those are our most glaring weaknesses. After that it's positions that need heir apparent types (DE, C, LB- for TD, SS)

pick the best possible guy at one of those positions.

    • It probably would be. Given that most 6th and 7th rounders aren't NFL game day material except on the Panthers, the pick might improve us slightly with a drafted player, but I'd like to see us actually be able to open up the field. I do think some of our offensive problem stem from defenses aren't afraid of Bryce's arm. They cover a short field and that makes life a lot easier for them.  If it doesn't work though, unless we get rid of the scouting department and whatever drafting algorithm Dave is making us use, it won't really matter anyway.
    • I think the Baker/Darnold thing has been overblown. QBs that struggle with the team that drafts them and go on to find success elsewhere often do end up going to multiple new teams before they figure it out and/or find the right situation. It just so happened that we traded for both guys in back-to-back years and neither player had quite figured it out yet. Baker, I think, needed more time and a better supporting cast. Darnold, I think, benefitted from a year on the bench in San Francisco a ton. I don't really have any ill will towards either of them. I think they both came here with the best intentions after coming from difficult circumstances; unfortunately the Panthers were - and still are, it seems - also in the process of figuring things out.
    • At this point this is all I want from this team. I'm done hoping for wins. I just want to see a competitive team for 4 quarters. Come out of the gate hard and don't give up no matter the score.
