LOL... this is how we roll ...we did it with CB for years...not to mention OT...

Yeah... thought DG had learned his lesson.  Our potential roster at S was actually looking like it could be decent with Adams, Coleman and the Boston for depth...  Oh well.

Back on my normal computer, so I can post a few things from old spreadsheets, etc. that might be relevant to this thread.

1) Marlowe history with the team:  I know the team likes him.  But here's his whole history with the Panthers:

So; 4 games on ST in 2015.  1 game in 2016.

What that looks like in terms of snaps:

2015:  9 snaps on defense;  53 on ST   (Tre Boston had 293 snaps on defense in 2015)

2016:  3 snaps on defense; (Boston had 841 snaps on defense in 2016).

So, a total of 12 snaps on defense.

You tell me.  We've got a 36 or 37 year old safety we're planning to start.  He's a great guy.  But are you really wanting to have as your primary backup a guy who has played 12 snaps on D in 2 full years?!?!?!

I don't like it and I will be mad if Gettleman doesn't bring in more depth.

Exactly. We've seen this movie before. Get old vet, cut a guy, don't have quality back up. Old vet goes down, we are screwed. There better be some trade or something.

Maybe this was mentioned on one of the previous 20 pages, but evidently Boston hit an escalator in his contract that more than doubled his salary this year. He was going to make almost $2M this season. I wonder if that escalator in effect got him cut.

I never understood moving our best experienced DB to play him out of position in order to accommodate a lesser player.

Even when he was at FS he played horrible.

A lot of his success in the 2015 seasons had to with Norman never needing safety help. Allowing Coleman to cheat to one side

What makes Boston good depth?  When given the opportunity to play, we had to sign Michael Griffin fresh off the couch to immediately play and take snaps away from Tre.  In the NFL, more games are lost than won.  I'll take a guy who doesn't have some of Tre's athleticism, but doesn't make big mistakes.  Starting experience is nice and everything, but it doesn't always make you a quality backup.  Sometimes you find out that they're not the right guys.

I think Gettleman said awhile ago that in todays NFL, players have 3 years to prove they can play.  Then its time to bring in fresh blood and give someone else a chance.
