Trouble at WFNZ: QCB and Mark Yarbro fired, full-length podcasts eliminated

Recommended Posts

I enjoy the show. I will admit that QCB segments were too long. Less is more sometimes. QCB is a talented, and I do mean talented piece of.....what was I saying again?

What about cousin bootsie's monkey crate business? Gonna miss the guy.

I like FNZ in doses during the day.  I have been listening to Prime time a little more.

Get my Mac fix in the am.

But surprised by Yarbs. I noticed at lunch no Yarbs and nothing else said. Ironic to hear Connecticut School of broadcasting ads today...

As long as they keep WFNZ programming local I'm good. I love Panthers talk and local radio is the only place to get it outside of the podcasts.

Exactly.  And neither of these guys liked the Panthers.

Yep. Hearing about the redskins or cowboys was the worst. No interest in either. I hated qcb in primetime. And I doubly hated Bustin Loose they always made outlandish unsupported claims to just drum up interest. Like KB at fing 280 bs, I wish Garcia was gone too.

There were a few guys that just sucked, but all in all I actually really enjoyed listening to WFNZ.

**prep for sappy moment**

When I moved here 3 years ago, I didn't know anyone in charlotte and I was 13 hours away from what I considered home.  I honestly would sit down every afternoon in my patio and drink a few beers and listen to that station.  I still do this from time to time, but it sucks when stuff like this happens.  Sucks for them and their families, hope they rebound.

QCB was entertaining but he (and the entire mid morning crew) spent too much time bromancing and not enough time talking about sports.

Yarbs I don't get.  I wonder if these guys just get to a certain salary point where it makes sense for the station to bring in a fresh communications grad at $8.25/ hr.

I don't get all of the Garcia hate - he's one of the few on the station that can actually talk football.  I would say the only one I like more than Garcia is Geoff Schwartz and I hope he roles into a regular host role with QCB and Yarbs gone.

    • I honestly can’t believe this team’s turnaround this season. It’s surreal. Figured healthy we’d be fringe playoffs and with another lottery pick could finally turn the corner, but we don’t even need that. This group is ready. We haven’t played remotely well the last 5 games and yet still blew out 5 bad teams by 16+ each game like it was casual practice. We had a few solid teams with Kemba and Big Al but this is easily our best group since the original Hornets moved to NO. Man, what a shift in culture this new ownership group and front office has brought. So damn happy to see it after years of suffering and consistently meaningless games in this stretch of previous seasons.   Only 2.5 games out of the 6 seed, although Miami, Atlanta and Orlando have been playing well too. Gonna be a fun final stretch, hopefully we can get a top 8 seed at the very least. Celtics tomorrow will be a good test. Would be huge to keep the road winning streak up against a very hot top team on the 2nd half of a back to back. We’ve played Boston pretty well the last few years with much of this same group despite sucking so I do feel pretty good about it. Kon is due for a huge game coming off a few cold shooting games (although despite the poor shooting he’s been contributing well with defense, assists and rebounds).
    • It amazes me how underrated Horn has become after he finally was able to stay on the field. Sure last year wasn’t perfect but he was still a huge reason for our rebound defensively and I’d say he’s easily a top 10 corner. You don’t want to see Mike Jackson as our top corner. Any player is available for the right price but I’d be extremely hesitant to move Horn even for a big haul from LA.
