Beane doesn't rule out raiding Panthers staff

From Joe Person in The Observer...

Quote
Beane said he’s had one conversation with Gettleman since he left last week. It wasn’t to ask permission to interview one of Gettleman’s employees -- not yet, anyway.

“It’s more out of courtesy right now. Doesn’t mean I wouldn’t,” Beane said. “I’m not closing any doors. I’m working through some things.”

Gettleman told the Observer last week that all the Panthers’ scouts and front office personnel are under contract and strongly suggested he’d block any attempt by Beane to bring any of them with him to Buffalo.

Beane doesn't rule out recruiting Panthers people

Pretty good chance that some of those afforementioned contracts probably expire next offseason.

There's actually quite a bit more interesting info in this article, but I expect this particular tidbit to be what will draw the most focus from Panther fans. Observer apparently thought so too, given their choice of headline.

Beane and McDermott have actually made several good hires to both their coaching staff and their front office since taking control of the Bills. I like the direction they're heading.

Will be interesting to see whether they can successfully turn around a franchise that's been riddled with failure for over a decade now.

Might need to be a rule placed on this thought..on former staff poaching on former teams!! Meaning they can only take so many players or management positions from a former team!!

Not really a rule, but coaches and front office people sign contracts the same as players do.

Rivera wanted Steve Wilks when he left San Diego but the Chargers blocked him. When Wilks' contract expired the following year though there was nothing they could do.

Teams do sometimes allow guys under contract to interview for advancement, but unless it's for a head honcho slot like GM or head coach, most interviews are stoppable.

Do you ironic part is when the Panthers started their team over 20 years ago, they used the Buffalo Bills staff and players as their core...Bill Polian, Frank Reich, Pete Metzellars, Don Beebe and etc.

Back then the Bills bar was pretty higher than our bar now. 4 straight Super Bowls vs an up and down franchise. The Bills aren't aiming that high.

I remember the Bills South.

Reich's a coach now, and from what I've seen an up and comer. Wouldn't mind having him back aboard our train in some capacity.

and guess what team will make an extremely aggressive push for Luke or Cam come 2020?

Or perhaps Andrew Norwell next year.

The Bills could indeed be in a position to make our future years' contract negotiations "interesting".
