Mike Florio bashes Panthers oraganization

One of the headlines from Charlotte in the early days of the offseason program related to the size of the body of Panthers receiver Kelvin Benjamin. Now that Benjamin apparently is in shape, Panthers G.M. Dave Gettleman has a few things to say about the reaction to Benjamin’s bloat.

“This is what frustrates me with the media today,” Gettleman said recently, via Bill Voth of the website the Panthers own and operate. “They go to DEFCON 5 on everything. . . . Kelvin Benjamin being overweight was not a big deal. It was April 17. Can we all get a grip?”

For starters, the media doesn’t go to “DEFCON 5 on everything.” The media showcases the stories that the audience is expected to be interested in, at every given phase of the calendar. The media companies that do that the best way thrive; those that fail to write and talk about things of interest to the audience fail.

"Oh how dare we get attacked for over-sensationalizing a story that turned out to be no big deal? How dare the Panthers defend Kelvin Benjamin and attack us for talking about him negatively."

So nowadays you can't criticize the press. What has the world come to.

No seriously. The media can fug off fir real. Dont act like they are just being good journalists. Thats a bunch of bullsshit. Sometimes yes

but today its all about clicks and money. If they can twist a story around they fugging will. They want the reactionary click bait title to get clicks.

Weve even seen it on this site and many of us eventually said thsts enough

this isnt every case and most outlets produce at least some quality content but i am 100% on board with gettleman and the parts of the media more concerned with clicks than actually producing legitimate truthful content can go fug themselves

its like looters. That story breaks and every dumbass had to go in and abuse the story to get personal gain.

Sure, kelvin derserves criticism, but the panic and frenzy that ensued was pathetic and fugin retarded.

Things wouldnt need to get to DEFCON 5 levels if Benjamin would be a professional about his job and stay in shape. Then Gman doesnt have to cover for him and Voth doesnt have to talk poo. It seems silly to blame the press for a situation that was self created.

Florio and most of the folks at PFT are entitled losers who sensationalize their articles to make money. I miss the days of reporters actually reporting the facts of situations. Unfortunately, real journalism is a dying breed across the board, not just sports journalism.

    • And those targets are mostly going to TMac, who will be a part of the FUTURE of the team. Did it remove the most reliable WR and Bryce's safety blanket? Absolutely. But it's also allowing him to build better chemistry with TMac, Stephens, Horn, Evans, etc. I am pumped to see Coker back and hopefully they can reignite that connection.
    • It's the same thing that made Bryce the #1 overall pick. I've never seen such mass delusion about a football player before. Everyone convinced themselves that the fact that Bryce was below to severely below average in practically every physical attribute for an NFL QB just wouldn't matter because he has everything else you need and that'll more than make up for it. When has such an argument ever been made for an NFL prospect before? We watch prospects plummet every year because they run a couple tenths slower in the 40 time than expected. Smitty had everything you want in a receiver except he was 5'9" so he goes in the 3rd round. That's the way these things generally go. If you check a lot of boxes but leave some key ones unchecked you're not an elite prospect. With Bryce though, the physically limitations were always obvious so it gave more time to be able to build that into the equation and come up with reasons for why he'd be able to overcome it. Now we have all these same shortcomings having shone brightly on the NFL field and we STILL have people trying to convince themselves he'll be able to overcome it while ignoring that our past two wins and his improved play have come while riding the back of RB putting up GOAT RB production over the past two weeks. What changed wasn't Bryce. What changed is that Rico is playing out of his damn mind. Pretty much every NFL roster caliber QB can shine if he can get 200+ yards out of the RB behind him.
    • I'm gonna manifest that poo!
