Hurney meeting with JR today

Man, I had forgotten most of the names. You know why?  Most of them were terrible draft picks and never contributed to the team. I can see why JR might want to hire Hurley as an interim GM until the 2017 season is over. But, if he's allowed to oversee the 2018 draft I'm gonna be terrified.

If Hurney comes back he will be here to stay. It makes a bunch of sense now why he was always lurking in the shadows. I've been saying nothing happens without JRs approval and now it's clear. From draft to who plays Sunday is controlled by JR.

Everyone please help me wish the best owner in the @NFL Mr. Jerry Richardson a very Happy Birthday!!

What a motherfuger

to be fair, I think I've seen TD post something like this every year.  But yeah, gotta admit, today the timing sucked and it really rubbed me the wrong way.

But I'm not riding the "let's jump on TD" bandwagon.  Don't think any of this is his fault.  Sure he may have complained about his contract.  But he didn't fire Gettleman.

I hated Hurney...but it is hard to ignore the fact that he drafted the team's biggest superstars, many of which Gettleman and Rivera won games with the past several seasons.

That being said, he also made some very, very stupid mistakes.

You know what tends to happen when a GM fields a mediocre product with virtually no depth on the roster and bloated contracts?

High first round draft picks.

While not impossible, it is much more difficult to get a lemon in the first round if you are frequently picking early in the draft.

Pretty much Hurney's secret to success.

Had Hurney actually been just somewhat decent at selecting players in the later rounds he likely would have never been canned to begin with.

You'd think this was true, but like I mentioned elsewhere Hurney only picked in the top 10 three total times out of 10 years.  Two of these years he had no first round pick at all.  Three of those years we picked in the 20s.  I'm sorry, but Hurney wasn't exactly loaded with high first round picks, contrary to what many here think.

Those biggest super stars were results from super high draft picks from him driving the team into the ground.

I don't give him credit for drafting a super star with the FIRST pick in a draft where 80% of the top 10 in that draft will be in the hall

And the #33 pick was traded the year prior for Armanti

Sent using the amazing CarolinaHuddle mobile app

Super high draft picks? Nope.

His bust rate is far greater than players who panned out. He was a terrible GM but hopefully he has learned from his mistakes.

How about Gettleman's draft? 15 of his 21 picks are soon to be busts. Terrible for someone who brags about his scouting background.

So you're happy hurney is back? Good lord where do these people come from

I'm indifferent. If Hurney was fired after his first 4 season. Most would have said that he was our best GM.

Hurney was terrible from 2009-2012. He was a damn good GM before that.
