I'm pretty confident he'll be doing a lot for this offense. Loved his college tape and think he could've been a first rounder. I think it'll translate to the NFL, but we'll see.

Its all part of the system Samuel & CMC will not be as effective if you don't have Outisde WR like Olsen & KB .

Just look what happened to GB when they lost Nelson and Cobb was forced to go outside.

you seriously have a problem with Curtis Samuel?

Sorry I don't take the blind faith route like yourself.

I've been right a sh*t ton more times than I've been wrong when it comes to predicting some of these draftees.

Samuel is pretty stiff and not as fluid as I'd like for a slot guy. Yes his combine numbers back up what his cut ups show when it comes to some of that stiffness (his 3 cone time is over 7 seconds). He's got good straight line speed though but his hands worry me. He's very raw and I just don't expect a lot from his this season.  But I'm sure you're the type of guy that sees he ran a 4.3 and goes "wow, he fast, he good".

When guys like D-Jax and Alshon Jeffrey are signing deals that we easily could've afforded it's a bit of a piss off.

it's definitely going to be funchess. I just don't see Samuel getting many reps with Jstew being our main workhorse and the Panthers running a lot of 2-back pistol formations with CmC either motioning in and out of the backfield, lining up in the slot, or catching screen passes out of T formations (assuming Shula has evolved as we all expect)

I also think CmC will be spyed on a lot (either by a safety or a linebacker) and obvioulsy Olsen will demand a lot of attention as well including some corner/safety double teams on Benjamin which will all translate to a lot of one on one match ups for Funchess.

As long as Cam has time, I can see Funchess having a breakout year (1050 yards, 6-8 TD's)

god the more I think of the potential of this offense, the more I start to salivate.

Wuh?  You realize Samuel is a WR right?

I think Samuel is going to be our "#3 guy" but lining up in the slot (and the occasional gadget play) he'll get more looks, catches, yards, TDs, everything than Funchess.

umm he's actually a WR/RB hybrid, but yes he will be used mainly as a WR for us.

I'm just saying I can see CMC getting a lot of looks out of the slot as well, which will limit Samuel's snap count

The Funchess thing getting ridiculous.  I'm pulling for the guy and I hope he doesn't read the crap on this board.  If we have a more balanced approach the guy could thrive.  If he can't catch on then you don't resign him.  But it's short sighted or even senseless to even consider cutting him now.

He was a WR/RB hybrid in college. In the pros he's a WR that'll have the occasional gadget play. I'm just saying JStew has nothing to do with Samuel's snap count.  I'm guessing McCaffrey will move to the slot a few times a game, but Samuel will be there or out wide for most of the game.

It's all going to depend on how quickly Samuel settles into his role. If the team tries to turn him into a pure WR day 1 then he won't do much. But he can flourish if they utilize him in quick screens, drag routes, end arounds, and the occasional deep ball.

Funchess just needs to get out of his own head. Maybe it would help him to find a practice partner veteran who he can learn from (aka not Benjamin)

I like the optimism but I seriously doubt Ron & co go all in on Samuel in year one. I expect him to have a specialized role this year with limited snaps. Things might change if KB and Funch really suck it up, but Ron will initially rely on the vets.

I think Samuel has the most WR #1 potential out of anyone on our roster. Kelvin is good sure but everything about him screams complimentary #2 WR , he's a slower possession WR with limited YAC ability but the type who would be a great compliment to a fast/shifty/ultra competitor in the mold of a Odell Beckham or Antonio Brown, which I admit are lofty aspirations for Samuel but he has the traits for it.

I'm hoping they won't just limit him to the slot and give him some time on the outside too. If Funchess sucks again we could see Samuel and Benjamin starting outside with Shepard starting in slot in the last half of the season.

Ideally, we will be in a position to use both of them to their strength. Each can be a weapon in their own way. There is no denying Funchesses ball skills when he can stay focused and there is no denying Samuels versatility.

Wishing for Funchess to fail, as I see many do, is to deny the obvious talent he has. It takes receivers more time, especially those with only one year prior experience before entering the league; with a shitty QB no less.
