How Important Is Star For The Panthers?

During the NFL preseason, Star Lotulelei was unstoppable. Powering through offensive linemen with unbelievable strength, Star pushed back 300+ lb guys like they’re mere tackling dummies. Although his impact may doesn’t show as much on the stat sheet, it certainly showed on the field.

So, just how important is Star for the Panthers defensive line? Is he a player worth keeping when he becomes a free agent next year? Four clips from each Panthers preseason games speak for themselves.

DG would 100% get this done. He understands big men. Him grabbing Butler was 100% KK insurance and BPA. I'm worried about Hurney's priorities.

Honestly though, Hurney may be in a damned if you do/damned it you don't situation. If he pays him big money it will be "Oh here we go again... Hurney and his big contracts" and if he lets him walk... well that's probably the wrong move so hopefully he doesn't do that.

Star never gets credit for anything because he doesn't post the stats but outside Kuechly he's the most vital piece on our defense. Without Star, our LBs would have a harder job evading blockers and our pass rushers wouldn't be posting such sack numbers.

Him and Norwell are the priority now. They deserve a hell of a raise.

I agree 100% but don't know how you do both. Restructure someone? I hate that move though because it usually ends up kicking the can further down the road and creates dead money for a guy not on the roster in a few years BUT those 2 could be that important.

Good write up man, Star & KK allows our LB to roam free, if we lose him we also weaken the LB cop which is our strongest unit on the field.

Pay that man!

    • Exactly He's played two seasons and started 28 games. He's well beyond the point of being able to point to 2 or 3 games and being able to say, "THAT is the QB he is and will be in the future" Of course he can get there, but anyone trying to use just those couple of games to rank his place amongst the games QB's today and their full career's worth of playing at that level, is just asinine. Mahomes, Allen, Lamar, Burrow, Hurts, Herbert, Daniels, Stafford, Goff, Geno, Purdy, Baker, Love, Dak, Tua, Kyler, Lawrence That's 17 QB's right there that have played better over their careers than Bryce has played at his best.  And I'm not saying they're all studs or guys I'd want to be our QB moving forward, Tua for example I wouldn't touch with a 10 foot pole, but his body of work is a million times better than Bryce's has been. It's also not including any of the other QB's drafted in 2023/2024 other than Daniels. So again, say you believe in Bryce, say you think he's going to prove he can and should be our QB of the future, that's all fair and totally fine. But nobody can say he's been an above average QB in his career thus far, it's just an asinine notion.
    • I'd think we could get one of those from Dallas for... whatever.
